    "It had me at "Elusive""
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book had its moments. For example, the dialogue between characters were believable and both demonstrated the right maturity level. I can believe that characters at their age and within the regency period can think that way. The story was not angst-ridden so my reactions weren't extreme but the story was engaging enough to be good. For example, I disliked Jason's "rakish ways" and Olivia was too accepting of her plight in the beginning - but both their characters developed at a good pace that redeemed both characters towards the end. I also liked that the original conflict was resolved earlier and not too late in the book that it felt like an abrupt ending.

Yes I bought this book because of the title. I also thought that it was worth my time to write a review. This is my first book by Callie Hutton - although I won't be rushing to get her next book (like Lisa Kleypas, Eloisa James and Sarah MacLean), Callie will be an author that I won't mind reading again. As to Billie Fulford-Brown, she's not one of my favorites but I liked her narration of the book. There were some instances when her female and male voice seemed the same that I had to rewind a bit because I thought Olivia was supposed to be talking. Anyway, there weren't too many of those so it was forgivable. Net/net good book for a "new to me" narrator and author.

    "The Elusive Wife"

Well written regency tale. I found it to be very amusing!

The narrator was not to my liking. While she did manage to use a different voice for each character, her rising and falling inflections seemed very off. Fortunately, the author's story had me hooked.

"Started with a good story line"

This had the makings of a good story line. The end was very rushed. It was an ok story. I have definitely read better books.

    "Didn't like the narrator."

Good story. Flowed well but the narrator couldn't tell where to apply emotion. I would listen to it again.

    "Cute Story, Great Narration!"

This was a cute story. The heroine, Olivia was definitely elusive for quite a long time though. A bit too long IMO. But I liked her a lot, She was strong with a mind of her own. I did like the Hero, Jason, after getting over him being a total cad at first. They ended up having some great chemistry and a couple of nice written sex scenes.

There was lots of dialogue throughout the entire book which was great.
As for the story it was nice, no 5 star story, but a nice story. The plot was a bit weak to be sure. and the story line could have been better.

As for the narration, this is the first I have heard of Billie Fulford-Brown and see she only has a few books narrated, Well I do hope she continues to narrate, she was great! Lots of emotion and the men sound like men and everyone had their own voice, I do think the narration made this book so much better. She was a joy to listen too.

    "Annoying narrator"

This was one of the most annoying narrators I've listened to. She did a fine job differentiating the characters, and her voice quality was pleasant. What completely threw me off were her modulation and the cadence. She read with a random rising and falling inflection that didn't accurately convey the mood/tone of the text. I know one of the reviews praised her narration; I just don't understand it! As for the story-it was nothing more than ok.

    "Could have been good"
What disappointed you about The Elusive Wife?

It had a some what unique premise but was in need of a good editor.

Would you ever listen to anything by Callie Hutton again?

    Unlikely

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Billie Fulford-Brown?

    No

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointment

    Any additional comments?

The male lead was completly unlikable.

"Great story. Narration not so good"

The narration is stilted, artificial-sounding and grating on the ears. The only saving grace is the moderately good story.

    "Sub standard regency romance"

The narration was not up to par and I kept hoping the story would improve. If I had not paid good money for this book I would not have finished it.

The story held so much promise I kept plodding through it

Actually, it is Jennifer, not Michael. I enjoy a variety of books but am drawn to romantic historical fiction with a Christian message.

    "The Elusive Wife"

I did enjoy the book but the writing was somewhat immature. It made me wonder if this was the author's first attempt at a novel. It was not well-written. Several descriptions of the main character's desire for his wife were repeatedly described the same way with the same wording. In addition, I did not care for the narrator. She was unable to do male voices. I would not recommend this book unless it was a daily deal.
