Growing up, I rarely saw Black love in literature. Romance, historically, has not been an inclusive genre. But Black-led love stories are essential to show that while we may have diverse experiences and perspectives, at the end of the day, love is love. Over the years, some of the most prolific authors to capture this phenomenon have been Black women. This list honors the writers who are at the forefront of celebrating Black love in romance. We remain hopeful that more will be added—we can’t help but hope, after all, since romance is all about believing in a happily ever after.
