Publisher's Summary

Being the hero of a zombie apocalypse ain’t easy. People expect you to defeat lunatics, save survivors, and recover treasure when you would rather just make time with your girl. Mo Collins can’t avoid his scripted destiny; his personal oracle, Smokes, won’t let him. He can still bitch about it, though.

The crew of the replica pirate ship, the Viva Ancora, is growing, and the characters of this cast are fulfilling their roles toward destiny. As the group swells, the need to clear the town of the infected and secure Guntersville Island becomes paramount. Isolation from the world will protect them from the naked, blue, undead cannibals - or will it?

Something’s not right with these “zombies”; the script is verging into the unwritten. The more contact the team has with their predatory enemies, the less certain they are of their actions. Are they wiping out a plague...or murdering a new order?

Follow Mo and his crew as they try to skew fate and carve out their own society on an Alabama lake where the fish bite, the Zombies bite...and sometimes life bites. Welcome ashore, friend, to Zombie Island!

Hey Mo, is that a burning bridge I smell?

Mo and the gang are finally making some headway. They have their island home, and are systematically burning or explodifying everything that connects them to dry land. The crew is back, although I have to say yhat I wonder about Smokes, because there seems to be more him than we are being let in on. We'll just have to see about him. Anyway, the gang finds themselves in the typical troubles of trying to survive a zompocalypse. They look for other survivors, hunt for supplies, an deal with crazy people and the dead, what could be more fun?

Bonds knows how to pen a story that is both funny and full of emotion, and while it may come off as a silly book set in the desolation of a dying world there are moments that will really impact you. He is that good with his characters. The plot is solid, and it contains a good balance of humor, action, drama, and zombies. This ain't the Walking Dead where zombies only show up once a show, or only appear when the story calls for it. You always know what the gang is facing, and you know that at some point we are going to lose some people.

Salzman revs up his narration engine and keeps the fun alive. I think he instinctively knows how to add some funny into a scene, or how to play it for laughs where other narrators would utterly fail. He provides some great voices, and is crisp and clean in his narration. I never noticed a problem with the audio/sound or his story telling. He hits every zombie in the head until it is a bloody mess. He is really fun to listen to, and I doubt another narrator could pull off such a balancing act as well as he does here.

Bonds keeps the story and the characters going, and makes you think that if there was ever a zombie apocalyse then this would be the gang you'd want to hang out with as you tried to survive. I, for one, will keep coming back to this series quite happily, and I have no doubt that you will too. Give this book a try if you like humor, apocalypses, or zombies. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. Getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Great cast of character in the terrible situation

Characters are easy to root for and they make a potentaily dark story lighthearted. Good second book from the author and I'm definitely interested to hear more books in the series.

The story is simple but the zombie outbreak is simply a backdrop to following these wonderful characters.

A Change-Of-Pace Zombie Series

There is something about this series that just cracks me up. It’s also just slightly different than any other zombie series I’ve ever read. From the “things” that leave behind to the way that the main characters talk about different things. It’s just a great change of pace.

Book two finds the teams building up their almost-island fortress in attempts to try and stay safe and sound from the zombies. It’s focused on some raiding, some building, and a lot on the people that were left.

There is scavaging, house runs, and the occasional zombie pooping all over the place and ruining a good day. Mo is Mo and Smokes is himself – funny as ever. Making Zombie Island another unforgettable but really needed change-of-pace book in the zombie/post-apocalyptic genre.

Honestly, this book wouldn’t have been as good without the great narration of S.W. Salzman. The way that he voices the different characters (especially Smokes and Mo) absolutely make this book. Without his narration (and the specific voices he gives to these characters) it wouldn’t have been as enjoyable.

If you’re looking for a change-of-pace funny zombie book – check this series out. It’s funny, full of enjoyable scenes, and definitely a book I won’t forget. I requested a free copy of this audiobook - it has not affected my review in any way.

Second Book

second book in this series. I loved the story but for a zombie book it lacked the zombies eating, biting and turning people.
The narration was amazing. You can see in your minds eye what the characters look like. They are funny and entertaining all in all a great book just wish it had more zombie action.

A GREAT LISTEN, FUN STORY AND NARRATION!!!

Mo and the crew are back, and they are getting bigger and better!! Lots of new faces, and they are building a cool society again! I laughed quite a bit and was drawn into the story quite easily...this is a fun listen, and I cant wait for book 3, since we got a bit of a cliffy ending! The narration is really well done and I love all the characters too...they are geeky and awkward, and just a riot!! I recommend you give this series a listen..you will enjoy it!!

Zombie Island

I am a huge fan of both the author and the narrator, but when you put these two together it is pure magic!!! The story line is awesome and the characters are all feel like real people to me. If you are looking for a new take on zompoc, it’s definitely worth your time!!! It’s not for the overly sensitive, but if you want to laugh the whole way through a book this is for you!

Not for me

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I hate to give low reviews but I couldn't listen to this whole book. I tried 5 times and cringed so hard at the faux southern accents. I have a feeling that this is one of those books that is truly appreciated read verses listened to. Especially since I really enjoy this authors work.
