Publisher's Summary

Being the hero of a zombie apocalypse ain’t easy. People expect you to defeat lunatics, save survivors, and recover treasure when you would rather just make time with your girl. Mo Collins can’t avoid his scripted destiny; his personal oracle, Smokes, won’t let him. He can still bitch about it, though.

The crew of the replica pirate ship, the Viva Ancora, is growing, and the characters of this cast are fulfilling their roles toward destiny. As the group swells, the need to clear the town of the infected and secure Guntersville Island becomes paramount. Isolation from the world will protect them from the naked, blue, undead cannibals - or will it?

Something’s not right with these “zombies”; the script is verging into the unwritten. The more contact the team has with their predatory enemies, the less certain they are of their actions. Are they wiping out a plague...or murdering a new order?

Follow Mo and his crew as they try to skew fate and carve out their own society on an Alabama lake where the fish bite, the Zombies bite...and sometimes life bites. Welcome ashore, friend, to Zombie Island!

Hey Mo, is that a burning bridge I smell?

Mo and the gang are finally making some headway. They have their island home, and are systematically burning or explodifying everything that connects them to dry land. The crew is back, although I have to say yhat I wonder about Smokes, because there seems to be more him than we are being let in on. We'll just have to see about him. Anyway, the gang finds themselves in the typical troubles of trying to survive a zompocalypse. They look for other survivors, hunt for supplies, an deal with crazy people and the dead, what could be more fun?

Bonds knows how to pen a story that is both funny and full of emotion, and while it may come off as a silly book set in the desolation of a dying world there are moments that will really impact you. He is that good with his characters. The plot is solid, and it contains a good balance of humor, action, drama, and zombies. This ain't the Walking Dead where zombies only show up once a show, or only appear when the story calls for it. You always know what the gang is facing, and you know that at some point we are going to lose some people.

Salzman revs up his narration engine and keeps the fun alive. I think he instinctively knows how to add some funny into a scene, or how to play it for laughs where other narrators would utterly fail. He provides some great voices, and is crisp and clean in his narration. I never noticed a problem with the audio/sound or his story telling. He hits every zombie in the head until it is a bloody mess. He is really fun to listen to, and I doubt another narrator could pull off such a balancing act as well as he does here.

Bonds keeps the story and the characters going, and makes you think that if there was ever a zombie apocalyse then this would be the gang you'd want to hang out with as you tried to survive. I, for one, will keep coming back to this series quite happily, and I have no doubt that you will too. Give this book a try if you like humor, apocalypses, or zombies. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. Getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Blue Nudist Cannibals!

Book 1 was fun but Book 2 is better. Mo is still a likable guy despite all his hangups, and as he encounters more people in this zombie world, the hangups multiply. I especially like his interactions with Bradley, who is in a wheelchair. Brad is a completely capable guy and a real addition to the surviving humans. Yet Mo can’t figure out if he should open the door for the guy in the wheel chair or not.

The humor is a mix of slapstick, sarcasm, and poking fun at racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. When I tired of the slapstick, a bit of sarcasm stepped in, and when I tired of that, Mo was again proclaiming he’s not sexist even while he ogled some woman. It’s a good thing Mo is a good guy in general, and that he’s working on broadening his horizons.

The ladies in Book 1 didn’t get much page time. Here in Book 2, they get even less page time and this is the one weakness of the story. Now admittedly, the bulk of the story is told through Mo’s eyes and he doesn’t hang out with the women much. Still, I wanted more Hammer, and I wanted to know more about Crow. I would love a story featuring Hammer, Crow, and Bradley. The zombies would be vanquished! Mary, Bradley’s service monkey, had the most page time out of all the female characters (and she’s a humorous addition).

Throughout the tale, there some nods to other zombie story tellers like Nicholas Sansbury Smith, Mark Tufo, and George Romero. I loved these mentions along with all the nerd references to Star Trek and Star Wars. The tale does end on a cliff hanger. Good thing Book 3 is just a click away! (4.5/5 stars).

The Narration: S. W. Salzman did a great job with this story. His Alabama accent is better than in Book 1 and sounds quite believable. All his character voices are distinct and his female characters sound feminine. There were no technical issues with this recording. 5/5 stars.

Just as good and funny as book 1

Such a fun and funny ride. I love this series. Mo has coasted through life and now he coasts through the zombie apocalypse.
This is now one of my favorite zombie book series. If you can read this without laughing out loud several times then there is something wrong with you.

I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.

Comedy Excellence!

The only negative thing I can say about this book is that I wish it were longer! Selfishly, I try to understand the needs of a fulltime author, and review accordingly. I laughed out loud at some of the ridiculous visions this book caused me to see in my head! Seriously, I freaking love this series so far! There is humor, nerd-humor, awkward tropes, and all-around fuc$ery! This is going in the random win column, and recommendations will abound! My dad and older brother are getting an email tonight. p.s. if you're wondering why I wasn't quite so effusive in my review of volume one, just knowing been burned, before.

Genre-savvy Rednecks; PT 2

Book 2 sees our merry band of rednecks still surviving, still rebuilding. Our closet-nerd hero, Mo, still follows the gospel of the Oracle, alongside the ever-growing cast of living tropes.

Salzman's narration is great.

My guilty pleasure!

Having listened to the first book in this series, I felt my only option was to listen to book 2. The story is filled with dark humour and SW Salzman really brings it to life with his eclectic range of Southern accents.
Thoroughly enjoyable

They keep getting better!

The second novel in this series did not disappoint. It had several laugh-out-loud moments and more than a few giggle-to-myself ones.

In Zombie Island we still follow Mo, but we also get to see a couple of other's perspective. This only added to the story, and made it even better. Mo still continues writing his journal, but not every chapter. It has more action than the previous one, which was an added bonus!

S.W. Salzman did an outstanding job with the voices, all of which are easily distinguishable.

I'll be moving on to the next novel in this series, and I'm confident mr. Bonds will continue to amaze and amuse me!

I am addicted

The book is genius....even better than the last and the narrator really has done a stellar job of making the characters come to life. He is the best narrator that I have ever heard.

The storyline is original, hilarious and entertaining. I love the relationship between Smokes and Moe....they have given me some truly laugh out loud moments. Moe reminds me a little of “Forest Gump” at times....just mor intelligent.

I’m diving straight into book 3 and eagerly waiting for book 4 to be on Audible because I will no doubt finish it really quickly.
