An Instant New York Times Bestseller

Memories fade, but on this campus, legacies are never forgotten…or forgiven. A new thriller from New York Times bestselling author Megan Miranda.

Beckett Bowery never thought she’d return to Wyatt Valley, a picturesque college town in the Virginia mountains steeped in tradition. Her roots there were strong: Beckett’s parents taught at the college, and she never even imagined studying anywhere else—until a tragedy her senior year ended with two local men dead, and her roommate on the run, never to be seen again…

For the last two decades, Beckett has done her best to keep her distance. Then her daughter, Delilah, secretly applies to Wyatt College and earns a full scholarship, and Beckett can only hope that her lingering fears are unfounded. But deep down she knows that Wyatt Valley has a long memory, and that the past isn’t the only dangerous thing in town…©2025 Megan Miranda (P)2025 Simon & Schuster Audio

I had a little trouble getting into the story at the very beginning, but once the inciting incident happened I was hooked and couldn’t put it down.

Excellent Storytelling

This was my first Megan Miranda book and I really enjoyed. I believe I have found another mystery author to follow. I can't wait to read her other book I own. The character were very easy to follow and understand their motives. I liked her writing style and it was easy to follow and see the story unfolding.

4.5 stars 🌟

It was a little slow going in the beginning, but it was worth staying engaged and listening to the whole story. I will continue to listen to this author for sure.

First time hearing this author, really enjoyed the book

I have read all of Megan Miranda’s books since 2012, preordering the most recent ones. You Belong Here was just not the quality of her other novels, it is my least favorite and the only one deserving of less than 4 stars.

The setting was in the Virginia mountains, confined to a college campus with wooded trails to a quarry, but lacked any more interesting details that would have helped the listener to visualize it.

The timeline when back and forth between the early 2000’s and 2025, with a daughter’s college experience entwining with her mother’s two decades earlier.

The plot was not very unique, small town sheriff portrayed as an idiot so a woman had to take an unsolved crime into her own hands. The mystery was simple, not complex enough for an avid mystery reader, even though some red herrings and key omitted facts kept it from being predictable.

There is more than one twist starting around chapter 25, but all were ridiculously farfetched. There are endless red herrings, using coincidences and making all characters’ suspect at some point.

I was very disappointed with the narration. I don’t want to judge the author on the narration, but Cassandra Campbell’s voice was not a fit for a mystery. Her voice was sing-songy and she had great difficulty portraying and transitioning between multiple gender and age voices. The 40-something sheriff sounded like a 95-year-old man, Trevor sounded like a woman, and 18-year-old Delilah sounded like a whiny 6-year-old. Comparing again to some of Miranda’s previous novels where Rebekkah Ross was outstanding, with the perfect ominous mystery voice and smooth transitions between characters.

The ending was one of the most unsatisfying I have ever read. It became convoluted in the rushed last 1 hour of the novel, as Miranda tried desperately to fill so many plot holes and bring closure to all the red herrings and preposterous scenarios she had presented to disguise the final villain.

Only poorly written one of all Miranda's novels.

I preordered this book and was very excited about it. But I was disappointed when listening to it; I didn’t care about the mom (Beckett) at all. I enjoyed her other books but I never got into this one.

Preorder excitement, didn’t hold up

I pre-ordered this and the anticipation was intense. Unfortunately, I was sadly disappointed. The story line is the same as the majority of her other books (think “All the Missing Girls”) but not as good. I was hoping for a comeback after “Daughter Of Mine,” but it’s getting old. To top it all off, the narrator’s voice didn’t fit the character.

Disappointed

I usually love Megan Miranda novels, but this one was not worth a credit. The story was boring and the culprit was very predictable.

Predictable and Boring

The intricacies of character development kept me listening to this book in one day. Always looking forward to her next.,

Painfully slow; the daughter was infuriating and over all it was very anti climatic not one of my favorites

Too slow

Struggled to care about the characters or the storyline. Not Megan Mianda's best story and I love her other works.

Didn't care for this one
