Two years ago, Mercy Gray was hailed as a hero for saving lives during a mall shooting. She still carries souvenirs from that day: the fragment of a bullet lodged in her back, a mountain of medical debt, and guilt for ignoring her sister’s warnings that the sweet boy next door was anything but.
So when billionaire turned TV host Damien Dare recruits Mercy to compete on his new survivalist reality show, she can’t turn down a chance at the whopping cash prize that could send her sister to college. But when she and the other contestants arrive at the off-grid location, something isn’t right. The set is empty. The gates close without warning, trapping them inside. And then one of them turns up dead. What appeared at first to be a tragic accident quickly transforms as more contestants start dropping like flies. With time and resources running low, surviving this show takes on a whole new meaning. Mercy must figure out who to trust. Before she’s next.

Reseñas de la Crítica
Praise for We Won't All Survive
“The Hunger Games meets One of Us is Lying in this twisty thriller. If you like books with a dwindling band of survivors, you’ll love We Won’t All Survive. I stayed up way too late so I could read it in a single day. No one is quite who they seem to be—not even the main character."—April Henry, author of Two Truths and a Lie and When We Go Missing
“A complex look at trauma, survival, and the bonds that form under pressure, with the flair of twists you won't see coming.”—Mindy McGinnis, award-winning author of Heroine
“Marshall delivers an intense, pulse-pounding thriller that tactfully explores themes like trauma and toxic masculinity while never letting go of the throttle. Full of twists, turns, and catharsis.”—Booklist
“A fast-paced YA thriller… The tension steadily builds throughout with a surprising final twist that will shock readers. Fans of Holly Jackson and Karen McManus will love this.”—School Library Journal

This was a similar plot to the Hunger Games without as much murder; teenagers stuck together in a remote place fighting for survival against the elements (natural and man-made).
It was quite like some more recent novels: Close Your Eyes and Count to 10 by Lisa Unger and A Game of Lies by Clare Mackintosh.
The weakest aspect of this novel is that unlike the two recent novels I listed above, it is about 16-19 year olds, but somehow the writing and dialogue of the teenagers does not match their age. They are all wise beyond their years, and that is not believable. I don't think 6 16 year olds who would go on a reality tv show like this would be mature, and have the language skills of 30 year olds. I mean, I didn't expect Skibidi toilet or anything, but don't write a book about 16 year olds and have them all speak like 30 year olds. It is just lazy IMO.
Why wasn't this a YA book? Or maybe it was and I missed it.
Not a great thriller about modern day hunger games

Different than what I was expecting.

Through no fault of Mary Alice Marshall, given the length of the publishing journey, I’ve read a several stories about people brought together for a reality show orchestrated by a sinister wealthy person with ill intention. I’ve enjoyed each of Marshall’s previous books, so I was excited to read her latest book despite the premise.
I had difficulty embracing the characters, even Mercedes, though I understood her motivations, being in the competition with the very dangerous exercises felt foolish. Still, Marshall’s crisp writing and ability to keep me interested on the outcome.
YA readers will enjoy WE WON’T ALL SURVIVE.
Forgettable

And I have really loved all of the books I have previously read from this author. You have mass shootings, and tech bro billionaires who want to cleanse the world of the weak, and just—nobody asked for that, friend.
The setting was so creative and promising! I had to eventually just stop and go read what was going to happen because it was legitimately depressing me.
Also, unfortunately, the narration makes the MC sound like she’s perpetually on the brink of tears or about to fall asleep. I am pretty sad to have used a credit on it, tbh.
Read if you like political, bleak overtones, and 18 year olds that act like they’re 30.
