Publisher's Summary

Wizard scouts are the elite, deep-recon forces of the Intergalactic Empire. They are a mix of technology and magic-like abilities.

Richard, a cadet at the Intergalactic Wizard Scout Academy, is on assignment to retrieve a defecting scientist on a planet deep behind enemy lines. In theory, it should be a simple in-and-out mission. But as Richard learned long ago, nothing is ever simple. With a deadly Crosioian scout hot on his trail, Richard soon finds himself stuck with a couple of super-genius children who may hold a secret that could mean the salvation or destruction of three galaxies. Between dodging plasma rounds from heavily-armored Crosioian soldiers to battling werewolves, ogres, magic users, and deadly dimension-shifting cats the size of lions, Richard soon finds himself far outside his original mission parameters.

Even with the help of his battle computer, Nickelo, the odds of Richard completing his mission and getting the children safely home is low. Add in the interference of the mysterious entity known as 'the One' along with an all too suave master demon, and the odds of survival decreases even more rapidly. Will Richard's wizard scout training prevail, or is he doomed to fail? His only hope may well be to find allies in the most unlikely of places. Of course, a liberal sprinkling of luck wouldn't hurt either.

Surprise, surprise, surprise!

Even tho Wizard Cadet, and Wizard Defiant, are the first of this different trend of combining sorcery, magic, FTL, and self healing suits of armor, I was engrossed. Perhaps it was the military type action blended with pools of power and plasma weapons, or maybe it was the characters who were believable and well fleshed out in linear planes, Guy Williams did an admirable job in his rendition of new author Rodney Hartman text. Not exactly my cup of tea but I'm glad I explored with these wizards.

This is the second time I have read this book and I may read it again. Can hardly wait for the next book. Good job.

Disappointing...

Any additional comments?

I liked the first book, i really thought it had potential and if it is an indie author with an interesting but raw first book i usually also buy the second book in hoping (and rooting) for an improvement.
Sadly, the second book was not an improvement on the first, it was in fact worse.

The only likable characters in the first book were the main character, his AI sidekick and an elf woman, anyone from the "Wizard Scout Academy" (including the main character's friends) is not flashed out enough to care about, the main story was also pretty ambiguous on account of mystery.

As for the second book, the main story is ambiguous as ever, everyone in the academy including friends are still not flashed out enough to care about, the elf woman was replaced (never to be seen again) by two kids i found to be very annoying and the main character was butchered, his actions and behavior are all over the place, sometimes he's a hero wanna be and sometimes he does things like leaving behind children (that helped him) to burn to death in a fire...
he also lost about 20-30 IQ points, EVERYONE NEEDS TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING TO HIM, he just lost the ability to connect the dots, ANY DOTS!

That leave's us with the sidekick AI as the only likable character in the entire book, and he is not that much likable too...

As for the narrator he was decent, not good enough to compliment and not bad enough to complain about.

Dumbest dumb person EVER

Listening to the main character make decisions almost physically hurt. Lacking logic, Common sense, and anything that even remotely equates to intelligence. The amount of times I wanted to slam my head against the wall during this story made it very difficult to listen to. If it was possible, the character appeared to get dumber as the story progressed.

A perfect sequel

Continuing the journey with Rick and Nic as they are once again thrust into some unenviable situations. As the plot deepens and more of the curtain is pulled back, there are an equal number of new questions. I find it hard to stop listening whenever I hit play with this series.

Loved It!

I really enjoyed the last book and I loved this one too. It has a lot of interesting twists, it has a lot of dialog but I thought it was interesting and I enjoyed it. This is not your standard sci fi or fantasy novel and you get this wonderful sense of something much bigger going on that you are so curious to figure out. It's a good performance by the reader and this is certainly a book I would like to add to my hard copy library.

More of the same action

I like the chronicles so fare, but they are close to being to fantastic. Dimensional shifts, magic, spiret wolfs, zombies, plasma guns, elfs and gnomes. I enjoy this book, but there were no surprises or mysteries, just action.
