New Year's resolution changes everyting

Stuck in her same ol, same ol life and finding un-fulfillment- Crystal changes her life in every way possible, only to get the brakes pumped on her new life which she has quickly fallen' in love with - due to a death on her very first outdoor adventure as a guide. Is the death an accident as assumed or more. Crazy meets crazy in the group she leads on this adventure and they only come out as more crazy the more Crystal spends time with them in the hopes of getting back to her dream job. Will she be able to conclude this was all just a big accident...or discover a murderer?

A well written cozy mystery that is fun to read / listen to. I enjoyed the narration but found the voice tone change when "speaking" a male part somewhat distracting since it's the same tone for all the male characters. Regardless the narration was still VERY good! The characters like I said above were crazy for the most part but I really enjoyed the dynamic they added to the storyline - which flowed very well thru out. I loved the romantic vibes between Crystal and Jake and hope more comes from this. I also loved Crystal's parents. Overall a fun and entertaining mystery with great twists and surprising who done it and HEA..

A Cozy Mystery

This was my first M.L. Erdahl's book. This is the first book in A Seattle Wilderness Mystery Series, a cozy mystery. This is a great start to the Series. The characters are great, and the storyline is fun, intriguing and captivating. Amy Landon did a good job with the narration. I enjoyed it. I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Fun Start to a Series

Author ML Erdahl is new to me. I was given a copy for review consideration.

This story was fun. It had all the elements of a Cozy. A little romance, fun characters, pet antics and a good mystery. I liked the setting up of the main characters and family/friend dynamics- Crystal, Connor and Crystal's BFF and crazy cat.

The reflective thoughts to past events is different and fresh.

This is the first time I've listened to Amy Landon's performance. She has a nice, clear voice. Nice female/male voice distinction, without sounding silly. I wanted to be able to forget she was reading the story to me and get lost in the actual story, but that didn't happen. I give her performance 3.5 stars. I would definitely listen to more of her work to see how she grows in her productions. Great job to this team. I look forward to more in this series.

Mature Content: mild language (no sex, no graphic violence)

I was given a free copy upon request by the author/narrator. My review is honest and freely offered

Giggleworthy!

romantic, cozy-mystery, situational-humor, verbal-humor

She spontaneously quit her awful job and got a new job she was totally inexperienced in, what could possibly go wrong?
While shopping for snowshoes she meets a yummy guy who offers to teach her the skill, then it turns out that they work for the same company of winter guides. On the very first trip, the guests don't get along, drink to excess, and one of them winds up dead. The cozy mystery is pretty well done, the budding romance is entertaining, and the humor is really giggle worthy!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Wild Rose Press via NetGalley. Thank you!

3.5 stars

It was easy to listen to, nothing special or spectacular. It's a cozy "read", narrated at a good pace, and just interesting enough to keep listening to. A little outlandish and eye rolling sometimes, and the story seemed a little jagged or choppy, but none of that interrupted the flow to the point of annoyance.

The internet ate my review

I swear I reviewed this yesterday but scrolling through my library to pick a new book, I see nothing.

I liked the narrator. She spoke at a good place and you could tell who was speaking by the different voices - that is not always possible. Also, the voices don't grate on your nerves - not true of all I have read!

I do like the mystery, but found how she got that job to be suspect. I liked how she solved the mystery and the final showdown scene. It was a nice listen. I would listen to more in this series

Pretty Good

I wasn't sure what to expect from Winter Takes All based on the cover art; and to be honest, I overlooked it several times. Now that I have listened to it, I must say I am surprised at how well written this mystery is. The mystery is well plotted and the characters are engaging. The pace of the story is fast with enough plot twists to make the story interesting. The only thing about the story that bothered me is that everything came together very easily for Crystal. The boyfriend and job came at the right time and she didn't have a difficult time getting people to open up to her. With that said, I really enjoyed this story and I look forward to the next book in this series.

I was given a copy of this book for free in exchange for an unbiased review.

Wilderness Guide makes a wonderful fresh perspective

Enjoyed the unique perspective of the main character as a wilderness guide rather than the more ubiquitous baker or other characters. The descriptions of the wildlife and vistas make you wish you were there. The case keeps you second-guessing yourself until the end and the way to the solution was very smooth and uncontrived. Great read.

Great Start to a New Series

When she realizes that her New Year's resolution is identical to last year and that nothing has improved, Crystal decides to go make a big change. After quitting a dead end job and exaggerating her experience with the outdoors, she lands a job as a wilderness guide. Unfortunately for her, on the first night of her first outing, one of the guests is found dead. Until the case is solved, all outings are placed on hold. Needing to keep her income, Crystal begins "assisting" the police in their investigation. This was a fun read/listen that included an quirky cast of characters, a little romance, humor and mystery.

This was my first experience with author M.L. Erdahl but I would love to hear more from him, especially the Seattle Wilderness Mystery series. This was a unique occupation for the lead in a cozy mystery and I would love to see more of Crystal as she tries to find her groove as a wilderness guide and to watch as her relationship with Connor develope. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

Cozy mystery in Pacific NW wilderness

I enjoyed this story. It was just what I needed...cozy mystery/suspense with a lighter tone. Crystal was an engaging protagonist and I look forward to reading future books in this new series. The writing was polished and the refreshing voice on point. The book was a smooth and easy read. I liked the main and secondary characters, too. The storyline was interesting ...and I am a sucker for anything that takes place in the wilderness. I am hoping as Crystal develops her outdoors legs, future books will include more misadventures outside too, although the Seattle setting felt accurate. I can see self-made detective Crystal trekking through the Pacific Northwest hunting down another mystery... Highly recommend!

Loved it

This was a brilliant start to a new series. It had everything; a fantastic setting, a great group of characters, a little bit of romance and whole lot of mystery. I liked the moments of suspense near the end. It showed that the bad guys really meant business!
I loved the descriptions of the setting. It is unique and comes with its own set of dangers and potential for drama. I loved the side characters. They are a close knit bunch of friends and I look forward to reading more about them as the series progresses.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reading audio copy.
