A mind-bending, classic Philip K. Dick novel about the perception of reality.

Named as one of Time's 100 best books.

Glen Runciter runs a lucrative business—deploying his teams of anti-psychics to corporate clients who want privacy and security from psychic spies. But when he and his top team are ambushed by a rival, he is gravely injured and placed in "half-life," a dreamlike state of suspended animation. Soon, though, the surviving members of the team begin experiencing some strange phenomena, such as Runciter's face appearing on coins and the world seeming to move backward in time. As consumables deteriorate and technology gets ever more primitive, the group needs to find out what is causing the shifts and what a mysterious product called Ubik has to do with it all.

I thought this book was very interesting. Fast paced and very unique. The characters were great and the storytelling was excellent.

I have always been a great fan of novels that jump into the story. as you listen you just learn the setting. by then end you have a full understanding of the world setting and the players within. but the end of this novel crept up on me. superb!

dysphoria at this finest!

The philosophical essences of forms of human brain consciousness beyond those known to bioscience form the core of PKD’s plot(s). His writing skill is smoothly incorporating them into believable plots always involving several real characters. I particularly appreciate the absence of a major true villainous evil lead character.

In a way I liked it having no background noises, voices, cars, nature, i.e. no sound effects. MINOR
The passage of time seemed muddled (e.g. characters traveled - Des Moines, etc. vs Zurich etc. and other durations – but such big chunks of time weren’t addressed in plot events or dialogue.

Overall, the integrity of it all – nothing out of place.
