Publisher's summary

Work with your triggers to find peace in the painful moments and lasting emotional well-being.

Psychotherapist David Richo examines the science of triggers and our reactions of fear, anger, and sadness. He helps us understand why our bodies respond before our minds have a chance to make sense of a situation. By looking deeply at the roots of what provokes us - the words, actions, and even sensory elements like smell - we find opportunities to understand the origins of our triggers and train our bodies to remain calm in the face of painful memories.

The book offers in-the-moment exercises on how to process difficult emotions and physical manifestations in order to to cultivate the inner resources necessary to deal with recurring memories of trauma. When we are triggered, Richo writes, "we are being bullied by our own unfinished business." Explore what your body's knee-jerk reactions can teach you. Triggers: How We Can Stop Reacting and Start Healing acts as a guide to your body's powerful responses, helping you to remain calm under pressure and discover the key to emotional healing.

Great book!!!

Degrees of anger and fear have hamstrung me in areas of my life for far too long. This book is a useful source that I will continue to go back to for mindfulness of my triggers and the strategies available to defeat them. The only negative I have is I wish there was a PFF outline that accompanied this audio book. There were terms, phrases, and memory aids that I will have to go back and look for in the audio version of this book which will most likely be cumbersome. Again, overall great book!!!

Well-researched, precise, and very helpful

Listening through this _was_ triggering as it pointed out aspects of my interactions with others that chafe in unexpected ways. I realized how much I operate from a series of triggers. Seeing them for what they are helps me manage them.

And Dr. David Richo nails these slippery definitions down immediate from the Foreword. I can see where my reactions are trigger-based and how I've managed them from an uninformed mindset. It's showing me where I can improve and has given me tools to take action in a variety of circumstances from a variety of uplifting resources.

Those resources come from every aspect of life, too. I heard many mention religion in other reviews—specifically Christianity. The prevalent thought was that these were "overly used" as a resource. Be mindful that they were sprinkled throughout along with many quotes from many other sources—including Buddha, Shakespeare, and Dostoyevsky.

The message is important, if not critical, to live in a world where we are constantly in each other's space. These quotes are there to establish that human context from history.

triggers

One of the first books I've read nonstop in a long while. Every bit of it spoke to a current issue at the moment I read it.

To the point!

Wonderful!! Descriptive of what is healthy and what is not. Great information, if you’re looking to define what is triggering you, where the responsibility lies, and specific solutions. One of the best books I’ve read for self-help.

Really nice surprise

Fantastic book and a very nice surprise . I read some reviews Ana wasn’t sure but Whoever is badmouthing clearly isn’t ready to receive the message . I purchased this book because I wanted to be less reactive to things and stop being so fear based . This book had not just topics of how to avoid triggers but how to have healthy relationships, what defines self sabotage , what defines healthy relationships and love , how childhood issues affect our adult hood decisions, our ability to choose , transcend , how to be more evolved , more awake and feel like creators of our reality so we can contribute to this world once we heal . Very thorough book with a great combination of psychology , spiritual and science based ways to help us interpret our triggers and find our life purpose .
If your trying to stop feeling wronged and just want to love and find more peace from within I recommend you read this .

I have listened to this book repeatedly and get something new out of it every time. This should be
part of high school curriculum.
