Publisher's summary

A group of some of the most powerful people in the government, the military, and the private sector has begun a brutal plan to quietly take over the reins of the US government. They've begun to remove the people who stand in their way - and replace them with their own sympathizers and puppets. They've already taken out the Speaker of the House - whose death was made to look like an accidental drowning - and the president and vice president are next. Once they have their own people in place, they plan to start a bloody, brutal war on an unimaginable scale.

On restricted duty while he recovers from injuries incurred on a previous mission, Dewey Andreas is sent to Paris by CIA director Hector Calibrisi. The Secretary of State is going there for secret talks, and Dewey is to be an extra layer of security above the State Department team. But what should be an easy mission couldn't go more wrong. The cabal has sent in a hit man to take out the Secretary of State and lay the blame for this murder at the feet of Dewey himself. With the Secretary of State dead, shot by Dewey's weapon, Dewey is on the run and out in the cold, desperately trying to unravel the plot before the conspirators succeed in killing millions of innocents.

No-one captures essence of Dewey like Peter Herman

I feel like I'm listening to a Gray Man novel. Don't get me wrong, next to this series, The Gray Man is my favorite series. However, in this story Dewey sounds exactly like Court Gentry. It is hard for me to connect with Dewey in this book because of the narration.

The story is great. Ben Coes is an awesome author. But even Ben's writing can't overcome the narration and the blurred lines from the narration.

My disappointment with this novel is with the narration only. Jay Snyder is awesome but I wish he did more to give Dewey a distinction from Gentry.

Caution

If you could sum up Trap the Devil in three words, what would they be?

Great series addition

What was one of the most memorable moments of Trap the Devil?

Realization of who the bad guys are.

What didn’t you like about Jay Snyder’s performance?

I have loved this series but almost quit listening because of Snyder's attempt at Dewey's voice...it is just awful.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I liked the story and all of the Andreas books. When the female character learned her husband was a traitor and she risked her life.

Any additional comments?

No more Jay Snyder..... surely Coes was not consulted. He would not have wanted to ruin Dewey Andreas.

Dewey saves the day (again)!

...and I loved every moment! Superb, classic Coes plot and endless action mixed with strong character development makes this one gr8! I have read (with my eyeballs) this series before but find listening so much better. Richer, more vivid details delivered through the narrator’s performance provoke your imagination and make you feel like you’re *there*. This makes the experience more real and exciting, not to mention faster (1.5x speed)!

The threat comes from within

Still loving this series as it remains true to it's core representation of Dewey and the US intelligence infrastructure.

In this book we see a nice departure from the villains being external to the USA instead seeing the threat coming from the USA itself.

As always Dewey and the team take care of business in colorful ways.
