The guru to the gurus at last shares his knowledge with the rest of us. Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman's seminal studies in behavioral psychology, behavioral economics, and happiness studies have influenced numerous other authors, including Steven Pinker and Malcolm Gladwell. In Thinking, Fast and Slow, Kahneman at last offers his own, first book for the general public. It is a lucid and enlightening summary of his life's work. It will change the way you think about thinking.

Two systems drive the way we think and make choices, Kahneman explains: System One is fast, intuitive, and emotional; System Two is slower, more deliberative, and more logical. Examining how both systems function within the mind, Kahneman exposes the extraordinary capabilities as well as the biases of fast thinking and the pervasive influence of intuitive impressions on our thoughts and our choices. Engaging the reader in a lively conversation about how we think, he shows where we can trust our intuitions and how we can tap into the benefits of slow thinking, contrasting the two-system view of the mind with the standard model of the rational economic agent.

Kahneman's singularly influential work has transformed cognitive psychology and launched the new fields of behavioral economics and happiness studies. In this path-breaking book, Kahneman shows how the mind works, and offers practical and enlightening insights into how choices are made in both our business and personal lives--and how we can guard against the mental glitches that often get us into trouble.

Do you believe you are a rational person who relies mostly on thought and information to make decisions, important and trivial? You may not be so sure after you read this book. Do you instead go with your gut, trusting in the infallibility of your intuition? Perhaps you should consult Dr. Kahneman about how that might lead to disaster.

"Thinking Fast and Slow" is a combination treatise on some very complex science and a self-help book with down-to-earth advice about your marriage, your money, your health, and your safety. It's like listening to your favorite uncle, if your uncle was one of the smartest guys in the world.

The production and narration are excellent. So many audiobooks are ruined for me by having the narration artificially speeded up and cutting out all pauses, even pauses between chapters. There have been books I expected to enjoy but had to abandon soon after starting them because the ultrafast narration gave me vertigo. This book does not suffer from that. It's pretty long, but the pace is what the listener needs it to be.

I frequently reread a book, or relisten to a book, or listen and then read on Kindle (not simultaneously). I will probably relisten to this one.

Possibly the most important book I have ever read

Would you listen to Thinking, Fast and Slow again? Why?

Yes. there was just so many things packed into this book. I actually bought the print copy so I could ake notes in the margin. I will listen to it again to squeeze out even more jewels.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

You must listen to the book and then refer to the diagrams. It takes relection.

Any additional comments?

Clearly one of the top non-fiction works of the time.

A tour de force

Would you consider the audio edition of Thinking, Fast and Slow to be better than the print version?

I think the audible version along with the PDF give the fullest experience of watching yourself

What did you like best about this story?

Science made available to lay people who can think.

I couldn't listen to this book, and I will be requesting a refund. The narrator over enunciates ev-er-y. sin-gle. syl-la-ble. Not only is it painfully slow, but my brain had to work too hard to follow what he is saying. The point of an audio book is to absorb the story/material -- not to spend the entire time overly focusing, trying to figure out what the person is saying, and getting constantly distracted by syllables that shouldn't be enunciated or unnecessary vocal inflections.

What did you love best about Thinking, Fast and Slow?

This is very difficult material, and the Author takes YOU right into the story. Standing around the water cooler chatting with friends. Dan takes his time teaching you words, ideas, and making it all flow in a wonderful way that will allow time to digest as you learn

What did you like best about this story?

Dan constantly draws you into the book with actual examples. You become a test subject, and you participate in the research. This is painful at times, many times you don't want it to be real. But you experience it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book calls into question just about everything you "know." My reaction was not extreme but the change from reading the book was.

Any additional comments?

There are many books in the brain science category now. This book, "brain rules", and "the brain that changes itself" are all 6 star books. This book is the most "difficult" and covers the most controversial topics. This book also comes with a PDF. That is mentioned about 20 times in the reading. I did not use the PDF, and the author goes over them verbally after each is mentioned. My brother used the PDF and found it very useful, but you can get by. Just wait and Dan will walk you through it.

You will learn so much
