Publisher's summary

Time is a resource. Everyone knows it has to be managed. On Discworld that is the job of the highly capable Monks of History, who store it and pump it from the places where it's wasted (like underwater - how much time does a codfish need?) to places like cities, where there's never enough time. But the construction of the world's first truly accurate clock starts a race against, well, time, for the monk Lu Tze and his apprentice Lobsang Ludd. For if the perfect clock starts ticking, Time, as we know it, will stop. And then the trouble will really begin.

Subtle, sly, thought-provoking, and hilarious, Thief of Time is Terry Pratchett at his best.

This multi-voice production features Christopher Cazenove, Gabrielle de Cuir, Karesa McElheny, John Rubinstein, and Stefan Rudnicki, with a guest appearance by Harlan Ellison.

My perfect introduction to the Discworld

Year ago, I had the perfect introduction to the joy's Terry Pratchett's unique vision when I checked out this very audiobook from my local library... and I'll forever be grateful to the author, and cast for truly wonderful performances.
I saw in another review the cry to stop changing narrator's. This strikes me as ignorant as people who complain about the bars on the top and bottom of wide-screen movies.
To shift the narrators as you shift perspective is brilliant. The third person limited narrator is a wonderful tool, and you should read Orson Scott Card's work entitled Character and Viewpoint before you start throwing stones at this masterful manifestation of the tool.
Everything about the performances and brilliance of these actors is to be praised.
Stefan Rudnicki will forever be the perfect voice of Death in my mind and no one can deliver narration with a combination of menace and mischief like Harlan Ellison.
In short, this book is one of my favorites and when I finally made the jump to Audible, I knew I had to buy it and the rest of Pratchett as soon as possible, which I did during the 2004 12 credits for $100 sale.

Multiple Narrators Give Story a Different Slant

First off, this is one of my favorite Discworld novels. Which is hard to say since I love almost all of them. As to the audiobook itself, unlike many others, I enjoyed the multiple narrators for the most part. What may have confused some is that they don't read specific parts; rather they switch off reading whole sections. And while one narrator might voice one character slightly differently than another narrator, they all did quite a good job. It would be nice if Audible also had the ISIS version but there is still something about this version that has brought me back to it more than once.

So Fun

So fun! Lots of characterizations and a good plot. Remember the beep signals different voices.

Great book!!

I love Terry Pratchett's books and love to listen to them. Unfortunately, whoever edited the audio on this book didn't know what they were doing! Most of the words at the end of a sentence have the last sound cut off, making it very hard to understand the sentence. It is such a shame that such poor audio editing was done to one of the best writers of our century!

A great story, not so great performance.

I had a very hard time with the way this book was presented. Death was flat and lack luster. The hardest one to wrap my mind around was Nanny Ogg turned into a Dolly Partonesq character was a bit ill fitting and hard to listen to. Normally I listen to Pratchett books straight through
this was finished between several parts in between other books.

voices change

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not used to audio books with multiple actors unless it's a full cast production, which this is not. The actors switching back and forth is not necessarily a problem, but I feel like people should know about it. High marks all around.

Absolutely a delight

I will be recommending this book to everyone. The naration was by far the best of any book I have listened to. The story is enthralling, witty, clever,... I could run on with superlatives but I will just leave it at this. I will be listening to every thing Pratchett puts out. I can only hope that the naration and stories are as good as this one. From the reviews I have seen, I will not be dissapointed.

Sound effects disability issue

Love this book.

Performance of voice actors good.

Sound effects are VERY annoying.

Part of why I listen to audiobooks is because I’m disabled (including neurological issues) and reading is now very hard. My brain can’t handle sound effects and music over talking and I have to skip those parts.
