Publisher's Summary

Never in a million years did I think it would be Ian Parker who saved me....

I know I should stay away from Ian Parker.

But when my drug-dealing stepdad kicks me out, I have nowhere to go. Squatting in an abandoned shed on Ian’s grandpa’s farm seems like as good a plan as any.

Ian finds me there, of course, and he insists on me moving into his spare room. I should say no, but the appeal of a roof and a warm bed is too much. Not to mention Ian’s brown eyes and strong arms.

We’re nothing alike, but the spark between us is undeniable. My life is finally looking up.

Until I call the cops on my stepdad and unintentionally get my pregnant mom arrested.

Now I have to sacrifice my dreams to take care of my mom’s baby. She’s the only family I have left. Meanwhile, Ian’s band is taking off; his dreams are coming true.

Ian is my one chance at love. I just hope he doesn’t become the one chance that got away.

All About the Narrators

So, this is the first book by this author that I didn't like. The romance felt forced and nonexistent for me. I just never connected with the characters and get emotionally invested in either of their stories like this author is normally capable of doing.

I will say that Stella Bloom and Rock Engle were great. Stella Bloom always has this really sweet voice. Its nice like when you meet someone and automatically know you want to become friends with them. Its warm and welcoming and I loved her. Rock Engle also had a voice that I was really feeling for a male heroine. If for no other reason, definitely listen for the narrators alone. You won't be disappointed.

Swoon....

3 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️
I’ve read other books by Brittainy and enjoyed them. The reason I gave The Wreckage Of Us a three star is because it was just missing something.
I like Brittainy writing style. I even love the slow burn, however this book is a little to PG. I feel if you’re going to write a slow burn book then you need to give your readers a explosive hot scene and Brittainy dropped the ball on that. This wasn’t anything like her previous books. The storyline was good, but I found myself getting bored and actually skimming through chapters.

Ian and Hazel love for each other was beautiful and there were definitely many swooning moments. Ian is every girls dream....Hot Rockstar, with tattoos and a southern gentleman. Who wouldn’t love that! 🥰

I know Hazel was beyond her years, but I found the situation she put herself in to be a like unrealistic. You really don’t see many girls her age willingly to take on that big of responsibility. I did love her sarcastic mouth and I even laughed out loud several times.
Overall the story was okay, it dragged on a little to long and I wished the chemistry would’ve been more off the charts hot between Ian and Hazel. It just felt like the characters were lacking something. Maybe it was the nonexistent sex scenes. I don’t know. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I will definitely continue reading Brittainy books, just this book really didn’t do it for me.

Audiobook: Stella Bloom performance is always a five-star. She truly brings life to her character. I’ve only listened to a couple other books with Rock Engle as the narrator and I enjoy his voice, However I do not think he was a good fit for this book. He sounded to old for Ian’s character and his women’s voice needs major work. lol

Hazel is a spitfire!

I listened to the audio version and it was so good! Hazel was a little spitfire that won't take no for an answer. She has more heart and pride than most women out there. Ian is like most men, not very emotional when this story starts. It's great to hear Hazel break down those walls in this story. I highly recommend this one!

Too much telling not showing

I gave this 2 stars because I did finish it. I did it sped up to 2.0 but I still finished it. Some spoilers ahead:
Pros:
1. It was interesting enough to listen to but only because I was hoping it would get better. It didn’t. Plot was interesting but the execution was too much telling not showing.
Cons:
1. The usual manwhore trope is overdone. It also turned out to be a bait & switch so it was a waste to even use it.
2. No real research on how a ranch is run or how the music industry works.
3. Bad guy was written stereotypically and in the end he was easily defeated. In fact, it was so easy that he truly could’ve been stopped decades ago when he first appeared in this small town and started ruining lives.
4. The ole “I must break up with you because I’m being blackmailed” plot line was used and was just ridiculous. This read like a K-drama and was insulting to all readers. Here’s a thought: Call the police, tell others you’re being threatened, tell your boyfriend who’s supposed to be your best friend that you need help, Ask For Help! I thought this was a small town and everyone rallied to help. So help!
5. Plot holes or moments where it was obvious no research was done. Example: Hazel helps the guys write better lyrics for their songs. They get a record contract and their stuff starts getting played. They give Hazel a nice check and say thanks. Um no. She needs to be a credited songwriter which therefore means she gets royalties every time a song she’s written gets played and so much more. There was no mention of that happening. Just a pat on the head and some cash and a thumbs up Thanks! (smh)
6. The sexy talk and sex scenes were cringy, unsexy and uninspired.

I will not be reading anymore of this series or anything more from this author.

It was a decent book.

I did like it, I did finish it, yet it was pretty predictable what was going to happen. An easy listening while out for my walk

The male narrator is horrendous!

I thought the first half of this book was good. However the second part got annoying and seemed to be rushed at the end. I couldn’t tolerate the male narrator. I cringed when he started his sections.

Love Hazel and Ian’s Romance

This is a beautifully written story about how family can be put together by so much more than blood. Strong characters, high emotions and so much love. The audiobook was fantastic , both readers did an excellent job. I highly recommend this book.

Such a touching story

I loved the way this story came to life. The characters are written in a way that makes them feel real with real life worries and dreams. This story is full of sticky situations with near impossibly bleak outcomes, but with the will and perseverance written into the core of Holly, Ian, and their closest friends and family, their story is not another statistic.
Well done.
The entertainment factor was enhanced through the talented efforts of narrators Rock Engle and Stella Bloom. Their tried and true styles brought to life this beautiful story in the audiobook.

Good Story

I enjoy Brittney C. Cherry's writing. This book deals with real life issues such as drug addiction, abandonment etc.. Hazel deals with her moms drug use and abusive boyfriend. Ian deals with his parents drug use and abandonment as a young child. These two come together and somehow heal each other from the things that they thought defined them. Good storyline and characters.

The Wreckage of Us

Ian and Hazel.
I don’t know what I was expecting with this one I wasn’t disappointed but I didn’t love it the way I normally do with this author. That is ok its nice to not always know what is coming.
I think Hazel was my favorite character she really surprised me she didn’t complain about the way life was going. She made the most of it even if it was scary. She didn’t want anything handed to her she wanted to make it on her own. She was brave and maybe a little naïve but that is what Big Pa was there for he gave her the strength she didn’t know she needed.
I like Ian but I didn’t really love him. I get why he was angry but he also had his grandfather and grandmother in his corner. I guess I just expected more of him.
The band stuff was interesting if a little predictable.
I really enjoyed the narration, Rock though maybe shouldn’t do the female voice but other than that loved their narration Stella is a favorite of mine.
