A Message from The Author

Writing The Undead is a humbling experience. I am eternally grateful to the readers and listeners for the incredible support you always show.

Dan Morgan superbly narrated Parts 1 to 10, but unfortunately he was not able to continue. To my delight, the wonderfully talented Joe Jameson has now taken the series on. His range and skills are superb.

I am aware of the feedback about the voice of one of my characters, Dave. If this change has upset your listening experience then I can only apologise, but both Joe and I, and everyone at Audible, have listened to the points you made and take them very seriously. It is a wonderful thing to have such responsive fans, so willing to listen and work to make it better, plus the interactive nature of the series means you the listener can speak out and say what you like and don't like, otherwise how would we know?

We've got some cracking days ahead of us. Some real stonking rip-roaring storylines to come and both Joe and I can only hope you'll stay with us on this journey.

Take care,

RR Haywood.

It is the morning after the storm. Thick fog covers everything. In the stifling, claustrophobic atmosphere, Howie and his group head out for supplies.

Skirmishes and tense fights take place and there are messages left in blood at key sites: 'he's coming'. As the day progresses, Howie becomes increasingly darker in thought, and more demanding of his team. By the end of the day they have discovered a munitions factory, but can Howie hold it together?

Alex

The story was as exciting as the previous books. I've awaited the audio version for some time and was very disappointed by the change of narrators. I listened through but couldn't stand how he changed the voices and inflections of the characters. Dave most of all, was it because Dave is autistic that he chose that manner of speaking. The Virus spoke with clearer intelligence. I found it a bit offensive, not to mention what he made of the women's voices. I'll be reading the print version until the original narrator is back

stop

Dan Morgan narrated the first 10 plus the free preview of the series and I LOVED IT, I spent hours sitting at my computer desk just to listen to the story and went through the first 10 books in a matter of days buying extra credits because I couldn't wait to get to the next one then came #11 NOPE, I waisted $70 jumping to conclusions and downloading the rest of the series because I loved the first 10 so dang much then they switched narrators. Now, I never like actors being switched between series or different narrators in a series of audiobooks but this guy just isn't doing it for me. Grant it he can do a better female voice, but they all sound the same with Morgan you could instantly tell which character was speaking before you got the "Blowers dead panned" or whatever, not with this guy, his inflections are poor and he makes Dave, by far my FAVORITE character of this series (couldn't be because I'm a Veteran or anything) and this new guy Joe Jameson makes Dave sound like a brain dead mentally deficient moron and to top it off his "excited" voice reminds me of a child telling you over and over that they have to pee. I don't know if it was my internet or a glich with audible but the narrator for the 11-20 showed Dan Morgan so do the listen clip before you spend your credit or your money, I really do not like this narrator. Oh and I also have hearing loss so I have to crank the tv or speakers when I listen to people speaking with accents, but nothing is really helping me understand this Brit

Seriously?

I quite enjoyed the first 10 books, but something went wrong with this one. First, the new narrator is AWFUL. Second, language!! This book is barely listenable.

Skip this one.

New narrator is fantastic!

Don’t let the reviews blasting the new narrator change your mind about purchasing the rest of the series. I’m already on book 14 and let me just say that Joe Jameson gets better and better and better! Yes I was disappointed with the change in the first book but deal with it for this one then it gets better and better to the point he surpasses Dan. It’s all because RR Haywood listens to his fans and changes are made. I haven’t laughed so much in this series since it began and it’s all down to Joes ability to bring RRs work to life like never before. Stick with it and you won’t have any regrets!

I did change the speed to 1.1x and have stuck with it throughout the next 4 books. It works for me!

I’m already dreading the end of this series! I want to slow down but I can’t. I need to know what happens next because something big always happens and then I need more!

Great job to all involved. What a series!!

New narrator to vet

Finished part 10, started part 11 and AAAAGGHHH. That wasn’t Howie and that definitely wasn’t Dave. I went to google, learned of the dilemma and got on with it. It really didn’t take long to adjust and the promise that Dave gets better in the next reading allowed me to enjoy this book as much as the others. Solid story, great characters, excellent narrator; I am in it to the end (which I hope never comes).

I knew it was going to be a change ... But...

I sampled the Joe Jamison books before buying them and thought it would be ok. For the most part he did a fair job and this was a tough undertaking to pick up where Dan left off. I'm going to finish this book but I may have to switch to hard copy or Kindle. Dave is key to this series and Joe's version is not Dave. As with other reviewers, I also did not care for the female character voices.

I'm still happy with the story. I just miss Dan. Sorry. I really wanted to live Joe.

Bad new voice

Still a good story but narrator depicted dave as a real dummy. Shame because the humour doesn't seem to come across anymore.

Voices

I love the books and the person telling the story but unfortunately some voices were changed in book 11 and I didn’t enjoy the story this time hopefully they go back to the original story tellers from now on.
