My prediction: Karen Baugh Menuhin’s work will become a classic mystery series

I just finished listening to Karen Baugh Menuhin’s newly released Audible version of the sixth book in her astonishing series of murder mysteries, “The Tomb of the Chatelaine.”

I finished listening to it with a profound sense of pure satisfaction. Satisfaction at the depth and breadth of the story, at the way the author develops characters and events to pull a mystery toward a final denouement that leaves the reader guessing to the end. And satisfaction that there will be a seventh book in this series very soon.

I love the Audible versions of Menuhin’s works! I have no idea how she and Sam Dewhurst-Phillips got together to collaborate on producing the Audible versions, but it is a fantastic pairing of this author’s works and the perfect narrator for them. Of all the narrators I have heard over some years, I have never heard one to match the skills of Dewhurst-Phillips: An amazing reader in voice and accents, who never distracts from the story by hitting a false note, but rather enhances and brings out the author’s characters with the voices he gives them. This “reader,” for one, can now never be completely satisfied with a book of this series that is not read by this narrator. So I wait for each Audible version to come out, although in my impatience I occasionally do download the Kindle version in advance.

I highly recommend this entire series to anyone who loves the genre. And I recommend hearing it. This is the first series of any kind that I have ever listened to multiple times, just as one might listen to a piece of great music many times, finding more to like about it at each hearing.

Best yet

I have loved this series. “Lenox’s” dry humor and deducting capabilities captures the reader’s attention and leaves one captivated to the very end. I am always thrilled when I see Karen Baugh Menuhin has treated her readers with another book and this was the best one yet. Highly recommend!

Great 1920’s British Mystery

For me this series falls between Cozy Mysteries and Classic British Mysteries, like Dorothy Sayers. A tongue-in-cheek humor is present, historical facts and murder mysteries. I enjoy the MCs, the stories always keep me captivated and Dewhurst-Phillips’ performance is Superb. Great fun! from start to finish. I look forward to the next.

Too angry to be called cozy

Great storylines, and actually a very good performance but the dialogue is usually so angry with someone being upset all the time- usually the two main characters – and it gets a little hard to take.
