Fun Novel!

I listened to this on audible at the recommendation of a friend - we were discussing favorite recent books. I am so glad she recommended it! The characters are fun and their interactions are believable and fit well into the story. It is a solid mystery novel, but remains light and avoids being overly grotesque. The narrator has a nice British accent and really helps you feel like you are with Jodie in Cornwall. The narrator also avoids overacting character voices, which can be irritating in other audio books. I am looking forward to hearing about the adventures of these characters again in the rest of the series!

Very good cozy mystery

It’s so hard to find cozy mysteries that are not “overwritten” or try too hard. This was perfect, as was the narrator.

Excellent new cozy series

Both the author and narrator are new to me, but they made a terrific combination. The story was well-paced and interesting on the whole; the only thing that bothered me was when the main character went off on her own to the denouement: any former police officer would understand the importance of not going into a situation alone.

Fun and Lighthearted Mystery

Fun Who-Done-It type of mystery that follows the traditional formula of everything neatly wrapped up by the last page, with a promise of a sequel.

Zara Ramm is a great voice actor!

I bought this because I have LOVED listening to Zara Ramm bring Jodi Taylor’s books to life. ( I wind up reading them after, that are that good — and I hear Zara Ramm’s voices in my head.)

Fiona Leitch writes with a delightful mix of humor, iron, and sardonic wit. Her characters are true to life and the ones likely to continue on in the series seem like they will have interesting character arcs. First time reader of her work, and this is the first book in what I can presume is a successful series (as #9 is on the way), so I’ll forgive the traces of formulaic writing, especially since there is so much excellent writing, as well.

Now I have a dilemma: continue the series reading borrowed ebooks from a local library, or pay the cost to have the audio books. I don’t think I’m going to want to give these more than a single “reading.” (Rarely do I feel inclined to revisit a murder mystery — even after reading all Agatha Christie’s works and knowing I will have easily forgotten most of the endings.)

Brilliant

i was looking for that perfect balance between a too-cosy (read: syrupy sweet) mystery and something smart, witty and laugh out loud funny with well-written characters i care about right away. this book nailed it. a storyline that kept me guessing as well as kept my attention coupled with a fantastic narrator: what’s not to love? can’t wait to start book #2 tomorrow!

What a fun discovery!

I bought this book when it was on sale I believe, and I'm so glad I did! We really enjoyed it so much. The writing is quite good, Fiona Leitch has a well-balanced ability to meld description with conversation, mystery plot with relationships/romance, and the talent for leaving me always unwilling to turn it off (we listened straight through). I notice that Audible only has three of this author's books available (don't know why). But it appears to be a series that I think will have a lot of appeal if the writing/narration continue at this level. Azara Ramm is a very good narrator who brought the story to life--she is really very good. I just purchased the next in the series, and look forward to listening to it soon.
