Since 1823, Texas Rangers have defended frontier families, stopped cattle rustlers, solved crimes, and done much more beyond the scope of even the US Army. Writer Karl Kesel once noted that the Texas Rangers would make perfect comic book characters because “They’re so larger than life.” Their skill and bravery pushed the borders of believability: they’d famously send a single ranger to control an entire riot. This brief text delves into the Rangers’ storied history - from their humble beginnings serving the Republic of Texas, to their modern role as detectives in cowboy hats. Though the Rangers have at times been controversial, their courage, integrity, and perseverance have maintained the American landscape we know today.

How the West Was Won

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is for the audio copy of The Texas Rangers: The Larger Than Life History of the Infamous Police Force, by in60Learning and narrated by Tim Carper. I really like the in60Learning books. They remind me of the short story history books I read as a kid. You hear about the Texas Rangers but I did not really know their history. This book caught my attention because I am an Arizona Ranger, I know our history and I want to see how it stood up to the Texas Rangers. I was not disappointed. This is one of my favorite in60Learning books.

An Interesting History

This is a wonderful introduction to the history of the Texas Rangers. I enjoyed learning about such a long standing, rough, highly trained force as this organization. It is amazing listening to just this highlight "reel" of the Ranger's history. The narration was well done. It felt to me as if a cowboy had pulled up a chair to share his knowledge of this honorable and noble band of heroes who have helped to protect those around them. Once again, this book was a holiday gift from in60Learning and I chose to leave a review to repay them.
