Publisher's summary

Explore the captivating history of the Culper Ring!

Spying and warfare have always gone hand-in-hand. From Julius Caesar to modern generals, we have accounts of commanders covertly gathering information about their opponents, ensuring they have the intelligence they need to conduct a war.

George Washington was not late to realize he needed a spy ring to defeat the British in the American Revolution. So, the Culper Ring was created, and their work during the American Revolutionary War was carried out in the shadows, often informally, and with a great deal of care for secrecy. Anyone caught spying was liable to be hanged by the British.

Based in New York during the British occupation, the Culper Ring provided vital intelligence from behind enemy lines. Their work gave Washington an insight into the British forces and their plans. They helped to turn the war in the revolutionaries' favor. And now, their story can be told once more.

Some of the topics covered in this book include:

  • Before the Culper Ring
  • The Birth of the Culper Ring
  • Teething Troubles
  • Rearrangement
  • The Culper Ring at Work
  • The View from the Other Side
  • After Arnold
  • Dying Days
  • And a great deal more that you don't want to miss out on!

Powerful book.

Any additional comments?

Much better than the mini-series based on the book. Here the author was able to explain in greater detail what the ring went through to provide the info Washington needed.

Short and Sweet

What a great overview of the Culper Ring which was a spy ring that was instrumental in the creation of our country!

Succinct and informative

This book is a great first step if you're trying to learn more about the Culper Ring and the spy network of the Revolution. There isn't much fluff, and it compiles the facts well, while including the failings as well as the successes. My only complaint is that the narrator mispronounces a few words and that can be a little jarring, but it's not enough of a problem to put me off the story itself.

Too short

Very capable narrator, though I could quibble with his pronunciation of a few names and words. Story is more article length than book length though.

A short, but good recap...

This is a short audiobook, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I would have liked for it to be a little longer and more in depth, but the quick overview was good. Listening to this in conjunction with Washington's Immortals and the T.V. show "Turn: Washington's Spies" makes for a nice trio of information.

Well done but short.

The story behind Turn: Washington’s spy network was very interesting. Wish there was more information available but the spy business is kinda secretive so what can you do? I enjoyed it and the television series very much.

Excellent book that I wish had 10 more chapters

I truly enjoyed this book and the information and method by which it was imparted.

In my heart I am always hoping that someone finds an old picture at a garage sale that will provide more information on the Culper spy ring.

Excellent ...thought provoking!

Any additional comments?

This book is interesting, to the point and well researched with very little unsubstantiated history without the author clearly making a reference to that fact.

Excellent book

Any additional comments?

This book is entertaining. Amazingly inspiring, informative and insightful. I am troubled with hearing more about our founding fathers and mothers and the Colonial and Revolutionary War era. This book not only answered my interest but was highly impressive!

I loved this book very much. It yet suggests the stage sweet and compares some variations between the opera and history as it happened. Quick and fascinating. I learned a lot.

what passed behind the Revolution War

Any additional comments?

This book certainly shed the lights what passed behind the Revolution War and how George Washington succeeded the battle against the Britons. Amazed that women were involved as spies too!
