Publisher's summary

Darkness is descending on the small town of Rio Verde, Arizona. An evil older than time is rising from the desert, waiting for night to fall and a reign of terror to begin....

Brad Woods has performed a lot of autopsies, but never one like this. The body is purged of all blood.

Fear has made Sue Wing run from the darkened school and into night, a fear so powerful she can only name it using the Cantonese myths of her grandmother: Cup-hu-girngsi, the corspe who drinks blood.

Reporters like Rich Carter don't believe in the supernatural, but all the signs are pointing to the same conclusion: a vampire is stalking the streets of Rio Verde.

No, Rich Carter doesn't believe in such things. Not yet. But he will come to believe with a faith borne of horror after horror....

Well crafted

Wasn’t actually feeling a vampire book but I knew Little never writes an ordinary trope. I really liked this one. Great pacing is probably the most enjoyable quality of little’s stories.

CREEPY

Pretty creepy. Interesting characters. The only part I hated was the hurting of the children. Yes, it made me hate the creature even more which I guess was the point but it sickened me. On the whole, it was good, suspenseful and scary.

The Slowing

Not a bad novel...just slow, slow, slow! Bentley Little is the poor man's Stephen King. Salem's Lott makes this dragging Vampire story look a grade school attempt.

I never thought...

...anyone could write a story like this other than "The King ". I was wrong. Had me on the edge of my seat.

The Summoning

This was an excellent, old school horror story! In a desert town a preacher is building his church to Jesus' orders. They are preparing for the second coming. Jesus encourages drinking blood and eating human flesh. People, animals and even trees are sucked dry of life fluids.Jesus is hungry! Only one family in town knows what to do to battle the monster behind Jesus. It was great! John Pirhalla was a fantastic narrator.

It was a little slow at times but overall not a bad book. It was a good car book…as in to listen to in the car…

it's not Salem's Lot

it's okay, has some suspenseful parts and the narration is top-notch. the problem I have with the book is the characters, everything they do is wrong and and basically goes against human nature, they're so dumb you almost want them to die, and many of the characters they actually do kill you don't want to die... aside from that entertaining

The best Bentley novel

This was written 25ish years ago but seems contemporary with the cultist/mindless followers and their hate for Chinese people. People would say that this was written about the previous megalomaniac president if it were written today. It's a fantastic book and I loved the narrator.
