Publisher's Summary

In Beverly Hills, a wealthy CEO goes on a bloody rampage and videotapes the slaughter. He leaves behind a chilling cryptic message: “This is where it begins.”

Miles away, an alarmed mother receives an unsettling letter from her estranged husband, stained with bloody fingerprints.

And all across California, children are becoming affected by a monstrous change - and their parents by a mounting fear.

Social worker Carrie Daniels and reporter Brian Howells are determined to find the link between these baffling crimes. But they shouldn’t look too deeply into the lives of the victims. It’s quite dark there. And God help them, they won’t like what they find.

Well written take on the genre of folk horror

This will not be for many people, particularly those who cannot stand extreme violence or descriptions of sex with mythical, animalistic beings. This is quite a common element found in folk horror & so the reader should be prepared for it. Yes it does appear to bounce a bit from different people to different time periods but for people who manage to follow multiple social media sites/apps then this should be a walk in the park. It is a coherent twist upon the Jack of the Green tale but set in America as extremely rich men begin to act crazily and murder their families, the flashbacks bring together the element that binds these men together from 1849 to the present. I found it an engaging read where the twists & turns constantly kept me on my toes. Yet another reason as to why Bentley Little is one of my absolute favorite authors. Highly recommend

Okay

from the description I was really looking forward to this book, the story was kind of a letdown. Hyper-sexualized, which is fine but it didn't really seem to fit the rest of the story. It didn't work for me, but it may work for other people.

Loved it!

Some people don’t like this kind of thing but I find it fascinating! Bentley Little has an imagination. It’s always fun to see how where his stores take us. I don’t mind the “sex” or sexual situations at all as they only lend themselves to the imagery of the story. The narrator was just plain fantastic! I could easily visualize each character he played precisely and apart from the others. Well done! I would recommend only to people who like the weird, and macabre stirred into a kind monster filled, sexual menagerie.

Not happy with ending

I thoroughly enjoyed the book but the ending was disappointing. I had several laugh out loud moments and moment when I blushed but really like it. I was anticipating how everything was going to tie in together, only to have the problem solved so quickly that I had to replay the last few chapters to see what happened. Not mad that I purchase it as I can only imagine how hard it is to not only come up with a story, but to keep the reader interested. Love this author!!

Bye Bye Bentley

This book was just gross. Mainly because one of the points of the book was people having sex with monsters in graphic detail. He even described their private parts in the state of arousal. The story was weak to a fault. I could have cared less about any of the characters. Do your self a favor and skip this disgusting story. Funny, I have read over a dozen of his books but like they say your only as good as your last book. I am not a prude at all, I just draw the line on stupidity.

Anticlimactic ending

I was excited to see a new Bentley Little book, however; after listening I am pretty disappointed. The biggest letdown was the ending. The whole story built up to an ending where everything appeared to be resolved in less than five minutes. Much more could have been done to make it more exciting. Also, his stories are getting to be too predictable. Initially his stories containing weird sex stuff didn't bother me that much because the stories themselves were so interesting. Now I realize that every book I have read by him has a supernatural entity or beings that turn everyone around them into sex fiends engaging in taboo acts. Why does that always have to happen?

A Little disappointed

I have listened to many of Bentley Little's books, but this one is a little too strange for me, the plot was okay the narrator was good. I don't know what Bentley was on but to me this book was a little far-fetched.

Great story of sex and violence

The narrator is brilliant and the story and characters are well done. This book IS very full of sex and violence so if you're squeamish or if "sexy" monsters are a hard NO then don't bother. Otherwise enjoy an interesting horror that spans 100 years of history, lust and violence.
