Or is it perhaps someone more dangerous? Someone closer to home?

Laura has no enemies that she knows of, but she senses that husband Peter is keeping secrets. And when she starts digging into the family's past, a twisted and unsettling story starts to slowly reveal itself. But with the walls closing in on her, she needs to find out why someone would want to harm herand what really happened to his first wife. Before it's too late.

Readers voice

Could not get through the book because of the readers voice. Definitely not a good fit for this story.

Fun and Keeps you Guessing

Narration was great and I enjoyed all of the twists throughout the story. Its a mystery but it felt more like a light read. If you’re tired of your typical beach reads and need something a little more meaty this does the trick.

Interesting plot.

This narrarator must know some powerful people to get this job. If someone was running a contest for the worst narrarator ever, she would surely win first place. I was embarrassed for her.

A strong start to a new series with an interesting setting.

The Stepfamily introduces a fresh storyline set in Silicon Valley, which adds a modern and intriguing backdrop to the suspense. The plot is engaging and sets the foundation for what feels like a promising new series, with layered characters and simmering tension. While I enjoyed the story itself, the narrator did not work for me and occasionally pulled me out of the experience. Even so, the premise and direction are solid, making this a good four star read and a worthwhile introduction to the series.

Ok but terrible narrator

The story was ok. Has some fun drama and I was able to finish it and liked the ending. However, there’s lots of weird stuff in here. First of all why is she married to a guys who’s first wife’s death was suspicious in the first place. Why has she never asked about the situation 10 years into a marriage. Why are we having sex in the middle of everything. Why do we run to a private investigator for every little problem and not your own spouse. The last main issue is the narrator she is Awful.
