Loved it!

Starts a little slow but captivating after about chapter 15. Easy read. Audio was fantastic! Recommend to others

Rita is an awesome detective!

I really, really liked this one. What a good story!

Watch Your Back is a sharp, well-crafted mystery/thriller told through multiple points of view—primarily Rita the detective, Nathan the husband, and Eve the wife. I don’t want to say too much about the plot because it’s the kind of book that’s best experienced without knowing where it’s headed.

But I have to talk about Rita. She gave me total Columbo vibes—smart, observant, a little underestimated, and quietly relentless. I loved her.

What really stood out to me, though, is Terry Parlato’s commitment to storytelling. There’s been a lot of talk lately about how books, movies, and TV shows are being streamlined to grab attention quickly because our attention spans are supposedly shot. This book does not do that. And thank goodness.

Parlato takes her time. She fleshes out the characters, lets the story breathe, and trusts the reader. Multiple characters have believable, plausible reasons they could be suspects, and that tension is sustained thoughtfully, not rushed.

The result is a mystery that feels layered, intelligent, and deeply satisfying. If you enjoy strong storytelling, well-drawn characters, and mysteries where the pieces genuinely fit together, you will love this book.

I can’t recommend Watch Your Back enough. The audiobook is great. This book would be an amazing pick for Book Clubs.

Fantastic Whodunnit!

I really enjoyed this book. I lost count of the number of times I was sure that I knew who the culprit was and why they did it. I was wrong every time. Narration was enjoyable as well. 5 stars!

Nice twist.

Seemed to drag on a little with the detective asking the same people the same questions, over and over. But it finished strong, nice twist at the end. Once you caught it the story kind of played it self out, but it took me a little longer than usual to spot it.

Pretty good!

I can't say it grabbed my attention because it started out rather slow. However, after a few chapters, the pace picks up, and the guessing games begin because the twists are plentiful.
