Publisher's summary

An ancient secret. A legacy betrayed. A path to the stars.

A 3,000-year-old secret has put Zack Lancestrom within reach of power most interstellar empires would go to war over. There’s just one problem: In order to claim it, he’ll need to leave the planet, and there are gang members, feral aliens, and security forces sent by his own father standing in his way.

With the starports closed to him, Zack has no choice but to assemble his own crew and steal a starship. He knows where he can find one, but the path leads straight through the Boneyard, the most lawless place on the planet. He stands to gain a life of purpose and adventure beyond his imagination; failure will cost him his crew, his life, and doom his homeworld to a bloody civil war.

The Starborn Heir is the first book in Zack Lancestrom’s adventure, a swashbuckling space opera full of futuristic action, unsanctioned uses of advanced technology, and memorable characters. Humanity has spread across the galaxy, but they are not alone, and Zack’s quest to find a lost pre-war artifact may be the only thing standing between this universe and an interdimensional species that wants to blot out the light of the stars.

From D.J. Bodden, best-selling author of Viridian Gate Online: The Illusionist and the Black Year Series, comes a brand new science fiction adventure series set in the massive and ever-expanding FiveFold Universe.

Great story, annoying performance

I thoroughly enjoyed the story, but this performers odd pauses between what a character says and the name of the character is annoying as hell. I was only able to survive the narration by setting the playback speed to 1.25x.

Great foundation to a new series

A lot of thought was put into this futuristic world. It has a novel concept driving them to the stars and establishing a new planet. The character development in this book is strong. There is a variety of diverse and interesting characters. I’m interested to see where the next book goes. The narration is fantastic and really helps give individuality to this cast of characters.

Great book, great characters!

What a well crafted world full of diverse and believable characters. Star spiders rule! I honestly can't wait to read more in this world.

Very satisfying sci-fi

I’m a lover of old school pre-disney Star Wars and the great epic style universes. This promises to be a galaxy spanning storyline without a doubt. The tech is awesome and detailed enough to provide plenty of mental
Visuals, the setting is gritty in its realism much like blade runner. The spiders are a cool addition love the nod to R2D2 in the story. This one kept me guessing and enjoying how each little twist turns out. Betrayals, adventures, mercs, and more. This will satisfy all your sci-fi needs.

Great start to what I hope to be an epic journey!

As a fan of The Expanse, I was recommended this read and so far it has not disappointed. I'm looking forward to seeing where this story goes.
