When criminal defense attorney Joe Hennessy uncovers information about his son's unsolved murder, he must fight against the system to expose the truth.

In Charleston, South Carolina, eighteen-year-old Alicia Fenton is arrested for the murder of her stepfather. In exchange for information that has been buried for twenty years, attorney Joe Hennessy joins her defense team.

Desperate to know the truth about the past, Hennessy battles to prove Alicia is innocent. Fighting against corrupt cops, outlaw motorcycle gangs, and ruthless prisoners, the evidence leads Hennessy into the dangers of the criminal underworld.

Despite his full caseload, Hennessy agrees to defend a building construction manager against a charge of grand larceny. The further Hennessy works into the case, the more he finds that everything is connected.

As the cases progress, Hennessy uncovers a secret about his murdered son that has remained hidden for twenty years.

But to reveal the truth, to take that risk, Joe Hennessy must battle the entire system…

This book is awesome. It keeps you interested, it keeps you in-tuned to all the characters and storylines. Sadly but gives you a snapshot of the south. I am from the south, GA; everyone is connected somehow even people who you wouldn’t think are, end up being connected.

NICE!

New listener to the series. Blown away by the depths of character, the raw emotion, And unexpected twists in the plot. The author touched my sense of right and wrong and the inequalities show prevalent between the haves and have nots in our society. Compelled to go back to the beginning of the series.

Joe Hennessy’s voice was too much of a growled whisper throughout. I would have preferred a regular conventional full throated voice

Great story

The plot was a good nailbiter as things changed with each new piece of information.

Like it’s predecessors, the Southern Killer jumps right into the story. It’s gripping and near impossible to put down.

As a Southerner, nothing turns me off more than an obviously fake dialect. Charleston, like New Orleans, has various and distinct accents from the Gullahs’ Geechie to the elegant aristocratic and genteel Southern voices. Bradford Hastings nails a very difficult narration to pull off.

O’Mahoney uncovers the facade of the gracious mannered population of Charleston to reveal a malicious side of the city even most residents rarely see. Charleston is indeed the jewel of the South. I’ve been many times. My brother in law once ran for Governor of South Carolina. Every trip there reveals new revelations of our nation’s past. I love how the author subtly reveals the stark differences between the low country and the Upstate of South Carolina.

Outstanding Narration

This book had no slow parts, Had a great storyline, a great narrator and even a pretty great twist that made me say "Ah ha!"! While it wasn't difficult to assume the outcome of the book, the twist definitely kept it interesting and and it was just overall a great book! I am definitely off to look at some of this authors other books, as this was my first one. Also, it read great as a standalone. While I now want to listen to his other books, I hadn't ever listened to one before, so I knew none of the story leading up to this book, but I didn't need to. It was perfect.

It's a perfect book. Nothing to complain about at all!
