Resumen del Editor

Ruby Bozarth, a newcomer to Rosedale, Mississippi, is also fresh to the Mississippi Bar - and to the docket of Circuit Judge Baylor, who taps Ruby as defense counsel in a racially charged felony.

The murder of a woman from one of the town's oldest families has Rosedale's upper crust howling for blood, and the prosecutor is counting on Ruby's inexperience to help him deliver a swift conviction. Ruby's client is a college football star who has returned home after a career-ending injury, and she is determined to build a defense that will stick. She finds help in unexpected quarters from Suzanne, a hard-charging attorney armed to the teeth, and Shorty, a diner cook who knows more than he lets on.

Ruby never belonged to the country-club set, but once she nearly married into it. As news breaks of a second murder, Ruby's ex-fiance, Lee Greene, shows up on her doorstep - a Southern gentleman in need of a savior. As lurid, intertwining investigations unfold, no one in Rosedale can be trusted, especially the 12 men and women impaneled on the jury. They may be hiding the most incendiary secret of all.

silly.

I have read this story, or one exactly like it before. Is not new. 2nd Time with this author, who writes conversations as between stupid people, missing, always the obvious answer or point. I guess it's just artistic license. I used to think this guy was pretty good, but in his old age, maybe it's just not working so well for him.

Not Patterson’s usual standard!!

This book was disappointing. The narration was horrible! Her voice was annoyingly oitchv, accents very inauthentic and her volume varied widely. I have listened to audiobook for many years and this is the first I had to force myself to finish.

Had potential- got boring.

Just as I was getting into the story line, which took forever- it completely changed direction and got really boring.

Boring

No surprise. I could have told you the plot from almost the beginning. Almost frustrated that the main character could see what was going on

Juror #3

Excellent book. I liked the setting in the South and was a great myersty . Much more like Patterson earlier books. Very refreshing. Not so dark.

Shades of Grisham in Juror #3

I found this book thoroughly enjoyable. I've read many books by various authors under the James Patterson brand. I often read hardcovers, since they're a quick read. But I hadn't read or listened to a Patterson branded book in a while, and this one caught my eye.

The style is a lot like Grisham - particularly Grisham's earlier work, which centered around criminal cases and courtroom action much more than his more recent works. Grisham still holds the edge in developing characters and telling stories. This book is a more straight-forward volume that begins to develop several main characters but doesn't delve into others in depth. It has a good variety of characters, it's entirely believable (no one's escaping amid a hail of bullets fired by trained assassins that somehow miss their mark or explosions from which only the hero emerges), and the plot is engaging.

This, like many of the books under the Patterson brand, is a good "beach read" - quick, snappy, with intrigue and enough action to keep the reader absorbed. You know the client probably won't be convicted, but you try to figure out how he will be exonerated. Definitely an entertaining six hours (at 1.3 speed).

Not very realistic

This book was too far-reaching to ever be considered realistic. Very disappointed with the juvenile story line. Something you would expect from a novice writer. Not very realistic in the plots of either of the main storylines. Overall disappointing piece of fictional literature.

When writing about Mr. Grisham’s backyard

Dear Mr. Patterson,
I enjoyed your overall story as usual. If you are going to write in Mr. Grisham’s backyard there are a few things you should know! It’s Ole Miss, not Old Miss. We welcome you to the Grove, please learn our name. A southern belle would not visit the John. We rest, powder our noses, visit the Ladies room. We love a strong female character and that was defiantly here! Thanks for writing about us.. Hotty Toddy!

A little dissappointing

The conversations were at times stilted, and the character development sometimes too predictable. Also, there were simply too many Southern cliches and fairly non-essential statement s that sometime made the protagonist seem moronic. As for the story line itself, I would have liked a much better weaving of the crimes together - thus i felt this rough gem was too unfinished and probably could have been quite a bit better if the authors took more time with it - seemed they rushed to finish it off without enough looking back.
