When Lucie Montgomery finds the body of prominent wine merchant Paul Noble hanging from a beam in his art studio not far from her Virginia vineyard, she is unwittingly dragged into Noble's murky past. Once a member of the secretive Mandrake Society, Noble might have aided in a cover-up of the deaths 40 years ago of a disabled man and a beautiful young biochemist involved in classified government research.

A seemingly innocent favor for an old friend of her French grandfather sends Lucie to California, where she teams up with Quinn Santori, who walked out of Lucie's life months earlier. Soon Lucie and Quinn are embroiled in a deadly cat-and-mouse game that takes them from glittering San Francisco to the legendary vineyards of Napa and Sonoma, and back home to Virginia, as they try to discover whether a killer may be seeking vengeance for the long-ago deaths.

As Lucie and Quinn struggle to uncover the past, they must also decide whether they have a future together. Blending an intriguing mystery with an absorbing plot, vivid characters, and a richly evoked setting, The Sauvignon Secret should be savored like a glass of fine wine.

This book reads like the end to the series. If so, I have to say that I have truly enjoyed it. The lead character has grown from a wimpy dependent woman to a strong independent woman. In this novel we find Lucie willing to walk away from Quinn if he does not give her the commitment she wants. The mystery in the book is suspenseful and entertaining. All in all it's a delightful book.

Ending on a high note?

The narrator has a too fake Southern voice. She should spend time in the Deep South to learn our accent. I live in Mississippi and no one I know actually has that fake accent. story was interesting though. I had to force myself to listen to remainder.

I really loved this story. I had good development. I especially liked when towards the end of the novel the story continues to tell the aftermath. The ending was sweet and the big reveal was unexpected. The narrator had great accents.

I love Ellen Crosby’s wine country of Virginia series, but where she is writing about is not the Deep South. Northern Virginia folks have an accent, but it isn’t really “Southern” in the way this narrator portrays- just a pet peeve of mine. They are close to Maryland and Pennsylvania. As someone from this area, it irks me.
