Publisher's summary

Franny Marten's life is unraveling. Expecting to meet her boyfriend, Marcus Marks, for dinner, she finds his wife waiting for her instead. After the initial shock wears off, Franny finds she has more in common with Clare Marks than she could ever have imagined. And, amazingly, the women become fast friends. When Franny is unexpectedly offered an all-expenses-paid invitation to a family reunion in Provence, she goes, and takes Clare along for the ride. Provence is everything Franny pictured, but nothing at all what she expected. There are dangerous family secrets buried deep in the lovely landscape of southern France, and there is someone who will go to great lengths to keep Franny from uncovering them.

Spoiler!!!

So I am someone who always check movies with dogs for ‘does the dog die’ and I won’t watch if they do so this otherwise sweet and enjoyable story took me by surprise when the dog is poisoned and die. Can’t continue :( note to author: please do not kill the dog. Good book and I enjoyed it up to that point.

Love the book!!

I have tried to enjoy listening or reading Elizabeth Adler's newest books but I find I don't enjoy them at all. I love the reader - Carrington MacDuffie - of this and many other of Adler's books. I'll go back to listening to the older books over and over.

Disappointing

Why do authors feel they have to swear when writing their books. Is their vocabulary that limited?

Red Flag! Red Flag!

Couldn’t get beyond chapter 10. I like the romance genre, but I have issues lately. Are all women main characters naive and dumb?
This character allowed a stranger to enter her home on their first date. That’s unbelievable! Also, why are the men soooo smart, but this veterinarian is gullible and borderline stupid. The men in these books feel like predators! She ends up having a sex with him and he’s a creeper! And her job is supposed to be trivial and not important because he says do! Sure! I want to puke! I think I’m done with romance- it’s very degrading to women. Ugh!

Enjoyable

The book moves along at a good pace. The characters are well put together, at times I felt I was in the room with them. The narration is good , there is no confusion about who is who. A well written story.

Adler is always very entertaining.

It was a very good story. I always enjoy these stories that take place in European countries. The narration was really well done.

A Bit Blah for me

It had a few good moments but it didn’t really engage me at all. It took a good third of it to get even remotely interesting. I finished mostly out of curiosity because I felt invested. The narrator was the best part of the book. It had potential but just didn’t do it for me. I’m giving three stars overall because ratings are so subjective. I may not have liked it but it doesn’t mean someone else won’t have a different take on it.
