Publisher's summary

The morning of her niece's wedding, Margo Just drinks a double martini and contemplates the many mistakes she's made in her fifty-odd years of life. Spending three decades in love with a wonderful but unattainable man is pretty high up on her list of missteps, as is a long line of unsuccessful love affairs accompanied by a seemingly endless supply of delicious cocktails.

When the young bride flees - taking with her a family heirloom and leaving behind six hundred bewildered guests - her mother offers Margo fifty grand to retrieve her spoiled brat of a daughter and the invaluable property she stole. So, together with the bride's jilted and justifiably crabby fiancé, Margo sets out in a borrowed 1955 red MG on a cross-country chase. Along the way, none of what she discovers will be quite what she expected. But it might be exactly what she's been seeking all along.

From acclaimed humor writer Jane Lotter comes this madcap, laugh-out-loud adventure, The Bette Davis Club.

Sharp, Clever and Elegant... and funny as hell!

This is the story of a life changing adventure. It is unavoidably feminine and could rightly be branded as "chic lit." But it is also an intriguing, historical, cultural and delightful tale that is bound to keep you up late. (I would say heart warming, but whenever I read a review with those two words, I cringe.)

Mostly I read mystery novels. But there are common denominators that make up a 5 star experience for me. Charasmatic characters, characters I am instantly drawn to. Clever banter and intrigue. Great narration. The Bette Davis Club has all of these.

There are three cultural aspects that heavily influence the novel. Hollywood wealth and power. New York relationships. And a curious and hillarious view of the Dinah Shore Classic weekend in Palm Springs.

I am also grateful to the author for introducing me to Colleen Moore 's Fairy Castle. I am a former model railroader, so I looked up this masterpiece and was mesmorized.

Regardless of your favorite genre, give yourself a treat and listen to this book!

Worth the credit?

This book is not a five star, your life won't be complete if you don't read it kind of thing..... It is an adventure with many quirky personalities . I enjoyed the ride and I do believe it was worth the credit. Modern-day romance and adventure. I enjoyed it🚘🍸🍦

Can You Find Heaven On Earth?

Margo doesn't even know what she's looking for. She's a walking wound, denying her suffering and thinking that the only way to thrive is with lots and lots and LOTS of Emergency Martinis. She's a one-of-a-kind character who's been around the block (her romantic fantasies are of looking into steamy eyes and waiting for his Viagra to kick in). So who'da thunk she'd get pulled into an adventure that has her bouncing around the country and finding pieces of herself. I love that she's a woman in pain, who feels so much, and is willing to try even more. "The Bette Davis Club" will have you traveling the country, breaking and entering, and even dancing in the biggest lesbian dance contest ever. Join Margo on her quest to find the hidden meaning of things. Sometimes, even when you never thought it possible, you can find that heaven and earth meet in some of the most astounding ways!

Good yarn

I enjoyed this story - it was quirky and really well written. It's a pity this was her only novel.

My 1st Audiobook!

This was my very first full audiobook! I really have nothing to compare it to except excerpts from stories and essays, so I don't know if the narrator's performance was "out of this world" or not, but I did enjoy it! I really liked the narrator's inflection throughout, as well as her accent because it helped me get to know the characters better than if she were to speak without any emotion at all. She did great playing all the characters...even the men. :-) The storyline headed in a little bit of a different direction than I expected, but the ending made it all worth it, even though it was pretty predictable. I am happy I chose this book and would recommend it to others (mainly women) who enjoy a "not-so-serious" read about adventure, love, and the crazy things we go through with our families! :-)

horrible narration

Would you try another book from Jane Lotter and/or Sue Pitkin and Tessa Marts ?

I am suffering through this story. The narration if terrible. The English accent, the American accent, the Texas accent, the men's dialog... painful to listen to

Fun story, kept me engaged

This was a fun sorry that I enjoyed listening to. It was a little far fetched and well edited so the pieces fit. The characters were lively and kept me engaged.

Wonderfully read

I downloaded this book knowing near nothing about it and was pleasantly surprised. It was a delightful story about getting to know one's true self. I enjoyed this ride, and only wish Lotter could tell us another tale.

enjoyable

I enjoyed listening to this story & I would recommend it. It goes between modern day back through the main character's history so that her personality develops throughout the story. There's a good amount of excitement & intrigue to keep interested.

Great holiday read

Excellent fun with thoughtful insights. You need to suspend belief a little with the storyline; a bit cliché and completely improbable. Well read and easy listening with a happy ending.
