Publisher's Summary

The Synchronicity War is over, and the insectoid beachheads in our spiral arm have been destroyed, but the aftermath of the war holds some nasty surprises for humanity and its loyal AI allies. Somebody is messing with the human time line. Is it the friendlies, the sogas, the insectoids, or a new race?

This stand-alone novel set in the Synchronicity War universe has new human and AI characters. Find out what happened to Valkyrie, Casanova, Iceman, Gunslinger, and the other Rim AIs. The Retro War spans time and space in a galactic chess game with humans and their AIs as the pawns.

I was so happy to see this release!

I absolutely loved the Synchronicity Wars series and was very pleased with the new release of this book! I can only hope that the story continues.. It's awesome to hear from old friends and even meet some new people in the story. To the author: PLEASE keep this story going!!!

Love this addition to the series

A great continuation to the series. I hope he writes another. And please keep using the same narrator because he is the best.

Another great story

I really enjoyed this book and the Synchronicity War series. Luke Daniels does another awesome job of bringing the characters to life.

Time travel gets tiring

When time travel is limited, it's an interesting twist on a story. The first few books in this series explored that well. But when time travel gains power or becomes nearly unlimited, it becomes a weak, tired trope that destroys a story and makes it unbelievable unless you expend effort to "suspend disbelief". Only the most cursory of thinking about a scenario allows you to realize that you can can plant a nearly infinite number of traps for an opponent or his ancestors, given the ability to constantly flit back in time without limits.

That said, this series does have a lot of compelling story elements and good characters and narrative.

Ice man voice

Book was awesome as all the books in the series only thing I didn’t like was the change of ice mans voice and mannerisms. Made no effort too use ice mans voice and reflection

Lots of action and time travel !

I really liked the effort put into exploring time travel and the effort put into understanding the complications of it. Really great story!

loved the series from start to finish. Luke Daniels narration is awesome as always. Definitely recommend to anyone who likes space Sci fi type story's. Interesting temporal concepts too.

Good thing gone too far

Any additional comments?

So first off....Luke Daniels, He is one of the best readers out there. He is one guy who brings different personalities into his voice and inflection....I now look for books read by him.

This last of the series is a good idea that just went on a little too long. With all the time travel and rewriting of what has happened.....well it became a little tedious after a while. The story is well told, all of the AI personalities are great (and brought to life by Mr. D).

Over all it is a good series and the first couple of books are the best....but you know how it is when you get into a decent series.....you HAVE to finish the last book.

Will certainly look for more books by this author.

Gave me a headache!

Would you try another book written by Dietmar Wehr or narrated by Luke Daniels?

Yes to both. Author and narrator. Luke Daniels is one of my favourite narrators but even he struggles in this book, particularly with the AIs portrayals. I've read the Synchronicity War books by Wehr and would recommend them.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

If the mechanics of time travel is your thing, this might be for you but as I said - HEADACHE! The author went into too much detail and the result was confusing and replaced the 'action' of the other books.

Do you think The Retro War needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I won't be reading any follow-up.

It just ok...

It was like the story was meant to be a few books but then cut in to one, it doesn't allow you to develop any emotion for new characters. So while not a bad book it's not a great book either.
