Publisher's summary
Most Americans consider Abraham Lincoln to be the greatest president in history. His legend as the Great Emancipator has grown to mythic proportions as hundreds of books, a national holiday, and a monument in Washington, D.C., extol his heroism and martyrdom.
But what if most everything you knew about Lincoln were false? What if, instead of an American hero who sought to free the slaves, Lincoln were in fact a calculating politician who waged the bloodiest war in American history in order to build an empire that rivaled Great Britain's? In The Real Lincoln, author Thomas J. DiLorenzo uncovers a side of Lincoln not told in many history books and overshadowed by the immense Lincoln legend.
Through extensive research and meticulous documentation, DiLorenzo portrays the 16th president as a man who devoted his political career to revolutionizing the American form of government from one that was very limited in scope and highly decentralized - as the Founding Fathers intended - to a highly centralized, activist state. Standing in his way, however, was the South, with its independent states, its resistance to the national government, and its reliance on unfettered free trade.

Story
So many thousands of books deifying Abraham Lincoln have been published that it is nearly impossible for the average citizen to learn much of anything that is truthful about Lincoln’s presidency. You’ll learn that the real reason why Lincoln launched an invasion of his own country (he never admitted that secession was legal or legitimate) was to destroy the voluntary union of the founders and replace it with a coerced union held together by violence and threats of violence, much more like the old Soviet Union than the original American union.

The consensus view of the Civil War - that it was first and foremost a war to restore the Union, and an antislavery war only later when it became necessary for Union victory - dies here. James Oakes’s groundbreaking history shows how deftly Lincoln and congressional Republicans pursued antislavery throughout the war, pragmatic in policy but steadfast on principle. In the disloyal South the federal government quickly began freeing slaves, immediately and without slaveholder compensation, as they fled to Union lines.

Story
Nothing offends liberals more than Western imperialism—it is racism, sexism, and chauvinism all in one. And of course the epitome of Western imperialism is the British Empire, covering at its height a quarter of the globe’s surface and ruling a quarter of the world’s population. Here, best-selling author H. W. Crocker III exposes how the British Empire was actually one of the greatest establishers and defenders of freedom in history.

Story
Here to rescue the reputations of our Founding Fathers from the plague of modern political correctness is The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Founding Fathers. Author and Professor Brion McClanahan shows how patriots like Franklin, Madison, and Hamilton laid the foundations of American civil liberty and had a better understanding of the problems facing us today than our current Congress.

Story
In the 17th and 18th centuries, more than 300,000 white people were shipped to America as slaves. Urchins were swept up from London's streets to labor in the tobacco fields, where life expectancy was no more than two years. Brothels were raided to provide "breeders" for Virginia. Hopeful migrants were duped into signing as indentured servants, unaware they would become personal property who could be bought, sold, and even gambled away. Transported convicts were paraded for sale like livestock.

Story
The complete texts of the documents that tell the story of the clashes and compromises that gave birth to the Unites States of America. Should the members of the government be elected by direct vote of the people? Should the government be headed by a single executive, and how powerful should that executive be? Should immigrants be allowed into the United States? How should judges be appointed? What human rights should be safe from government infringement? In 1787, these important questions and others were raised as the states debated the merits of the proposed Constitution.

Story
This is the first book-length survey of the Union's "hard war" against the people of the Confederacy. It chronicles the St. Louis massacre - the events leading to, and suffering caused by, the federal decree that forced 20,000 Missouri civilians into exile. Thoroughly researched from sources including letters, diaries, and newspaper accounts of the time, it also pays attention to the suffering of African-American victims of Federal brutality. The title serves to set the record straight, to show that the war on civilians was not justified or necessary to save the union.

TRUTH
Finally, TRUTH in the face of overwhelming evidence. Even as a kid I questioned the “greatness” & “purity” of Lincoln- he was just like any other man... corrupt, rotten to the core, & willing to slaughter more than half a million souls on a foundation of lies. He set the standard for the likes of Lenin, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, (insert ruthless dictator here), etc.

Must Read History Book
Great information on Lincoln and the way our nation was hijacked by Centralists during and after the Civil War. Especially enjoyed the last chapter, where the author defends, and explains his defenses. Highly recommend.

Fascinating
Loved it. The reader was a bit too monotone and I had trouble keeping the dates straight but the information and overall narrative completely changed how I look at history. What do we “know” (honest Abe being one thing that’s taught as truth) and what do we get propagandized. Fascinating listen, absolutely recommend.

A true testament to the indoctrination of our education system
This book demolishes the standard understanding of “the great emancipator.” Using undeniable facts and sources, it exposes Lincoln as the power hungry puppet of big business.

Lincoln’s Conquest
I’ve long contended that Lincoln should have let the south go or even rescinded the tariffs to keep unity, but he did not. He was one of the first of the dismantlers of the constitution and set us on a trajectory towards our present mess. I can’t think of another American hero that is more undeserving of that mantle!

a welcome change
Thete are countless Lincoln biographies available on audible, and virtually all lionize the man, from Carl Sandburg on. Listen to a different take. Delorenzo documents that Lincoln alwayd admitted to be a proponent of Henry Clay's American System. He then makes a cogent argument that Lincoln was primarily motivated to go to war to promote this policy, characterized by the author as a spoils system. He concludes that none of the other myriad countries with slaves had to go to war to abolish slavery. So why did the US?

A Treasure of Information Alien to U.S. Classrooms
Unfortunately I, it seems that most Americans are content to ingest whatever is handed to them by the powers that be without a second thought as to whether it is true or complete. In "The Real Lincoln", Thomas DiLorenzo draws a clear portrait of the real man, politician, lawyer and, ultimately, dictator who forever changed the course of US government and the concept of liberty in this land.
The narration was perfect.
