Publisher's Summary

Since the beginning of the 20th century, cancer rates have increased exponentially - now affecting almost 50 percent of the American population. Conventional treatment continues to rely on chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation to attack cancer cells. Yet research has repeatedly shown that 95 percent of cancer cases are directly linked to diet and lifestyle. The Metabolic Approach to Cancer is the audiobook we have been waiting for - it offers an innovative, metabolic-focused nutrition protocol that actually works.

Naturopathic integrative oncologist and cancer survivor Dr. Nasha Winters and nutrition therapist Jess Higgins Kelley have identified the 10 key elements of a person’s “terrain” (think of it as a topographical map of our body) that are crucial to preventing and managing cancer. Each of the terrain 10 elements - including epigenetics, the microbiome, the immune system, toxin exposures, and blood-sugar balance - is illuminated as it relates to the cancer process, then given a heavily researched and tested, nontoxic and metabolic, focused nutrition prescription.

The metabolic theory of cancer - that cancer is fueled by high-carbohydrate diets, not “bad” genetics - was introduced by Nobel Prize-laureate and scientist Otto Warburg in 1931. It has been largely disregarded by conventional oncology ever since. But this theory is resurging as a result of research showing incredible clinical outcomes when cancer cells are deprived of their primary fuel source (glucose).

Great info (very dense), lots of science - NO PDF!

I've been reading lots of books on health, biohacking, cancer prevention, and such every since my prostate cancer diagnosis and surgery 2 years ago. This book brought all that I have read so far into one unified approach that makes sense. There is a TON of information in the book and I'll be re-reading it (likely several times). Prostate cancer runs in my family (I'm 3rd generation with it), and I am committed to my son NOT being generation 4.

My one complaint is a BIG one. The author constantly refers to "the PDF supplement" which sounds like it is chock full of great info. For some reason, my audible library does not show me a PDF for this book. I see PDFs for many of my other books and have had no trouble downloading them, but this one is simply not there.

"Finding your hope in defeating the Cancer within

I thoroughly enjoyed the information contained within this book. Although there will be, on many occasions ,(as I read), moments of frustration and other emotions because of the new insights that will cause them. Above all else I sensed a renewed hope coupled with a "proven battle plan ", for fighting cancer both now and in the future for yourself as well as a loved one, or someone you might know.
The narrator was excellent too.

Packed full of good information

This book brings together a lot of other writings I have seen about how nutrition affects cancer. The author seems to have a real depth of knowledge about food, nutrition, and their relation to disease. Because she herself had advanced cancer at a young age, and is healthy decades later adds to her credibility.

Best Book of Year

Most informative, particularly for those in the “fight”. Usually, I listen to books a little more recent.

The Definitive Guide for regaining health

I found my way to this book after a stage3 cancer diagnosis. I had been blinkered to anything about cancer before, but this book has been transformative. After reading it, nothing seems the same (while trying to not become one of those horrible health freaks I am helping to alter the lifestyle of my family and friends). I've lost around 30lbs (2 stone) so far, due to the lifestyle changes I've made while reading the book and will never be going back. Several chapters were so shocking to me that I became irate that this information is not disseminated to all school-age children. I recommend this book to anyone that has the slightest interest in health, not just cancer. I refer to it over and over and I bought the hardcover as well as the audiobook. I can't gush enough about it. I can only express my deep thanks to Dr. Winters, Jess Higgins Kelley and Suzie Althens. Kudos to all!!!

Great book, poor pronunciation

The books content is highly valued, however it’s clear the narrator is unfamiliar some terminology.
