Story
If you’re suffering from a physical or mental ailment, you’ve doubtless been presented with a number of possible treatments. Some of these might help, and others, not so much. It may seem surprising, but one of the best places to start for a number of issues is with guided therapeutic imagery. The practice has been around since the ancient Greeks and has received endorsements from health professionals since the 1970s for treating serious illnesses.

Dr. Rankin discovered the health care she had been taught was missing something: a recognition of the body’s innate ability to self-repair. Using cases of spontaneous healing, Dr. Rankin shows how thoughts, feelings, and beliefs can alter the body’s physiology. She lays out the data proving that loneliness, pessimism, depression, fear, and anxiety damage the body, while intimate relationships, gratitude, meditation, sex, and authentic self-expression flip on the body’s self-healing processes.

There is nothing more essential to our health and well-being than breathing. Yet, as a species, humans have lost the ability to breathe correctly, with grave consequences. Journalist James Nestor travels the world to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. The answers aren’t found in pulmonology labs, as we might expect, but in the muddy digs of ancient burial sites, secret Soviet facilities, New Jersey choir schools, and the smoggy streets of São Paulo. Nestor tracks down men and women exploring the hidden science behind ancient breathing practices.

Publisher's Summary
This program is read by the author.
When it comes to disease, who beats the odds - and why?
When it comes to spontaneous healing, skepticism abounds. Doctors are taught that "miraculous" recoveries are flukes, and as a result, they don’t study those cases or take them into account when treating patients.
Enter Dr. Jeff Rediger, who has spent over 15 years studying spontaneous healing, pioneering the use of scientific tools to investigate recoveries from incurable illnesses. Dr. Rediger’s research has taken him from America’s top hospitals to healing centers around the world - and along the way he’s uncovered insights into why some people beat the odds.
In Cured, Dr. Rediger digs down to the root causes of illness, showing how to create an environment that sets the stage for healing. He reveals the patterns behind healing and lays out the physical and mental principles associated with recovery: first, we need to physically heal our diet and our immune systems. Next, we need to mentally heal our stress response and our identities.
Through rigorous research, Dr. Rediger shows that much of our physical reality is created in our minds. Our perception changes our experience, even to the point of changing our physical bodies - and thus the healing of our identity may be our greatest tool to recovery.
Ultimately, miracles only contradict what we know of nature at this point in time. Cured leads the way in explaining the science behind these miracles, and provides a first-of-its-kind guidebook to both healing and preventing disease.
A Macmillan Audio production from Flatiron Books
"Rediger proposes a sweeping overhaul of the practice of medicine, and he makes a darned good case for it. The history he recounts, the clinical trials he cites, the personal stories of people with real names lend his argument the force of a hurricane... At the end of his book, Rediger issues a call to join him in his crusade. Demand a medical system that emphasizes health, not sickness. 'Help us sound the revolution,' he writes. It’s an utterly persuasive message." (Washington Post)

Great information desperately in need of an editor
A couple of years ago I read Cure by Jo Marchant. Its' one of the best books on health that I've ever read. This is a good follow up to that book with more information. But it's difficult to get through. The book needs some serious editing. There's lots of repetitive information and it's somewhat disjointed. The worst part is that Dr. Rediger should not have ever narrated the book. He's clearly a very talented doctor and I'm grateful that someone is finally researching the individual's ability to heal. But he needed to let go of some control over this book and allow it to be professionally edited and narrated. The production is choppy and it's quite jarring.
All that said, I'm glad I stuck with it. But I'd recommend for anyone else to read a paper version.

Good book - poor editing
This is the first book I’ve listened to with such obvious editing. It was jarring to have the voice chance in the middle of a chapter. It sounded like an entirely different person but it may have been just a significant change in cadence.
The content was good and I enjoyed listening to it.

Outstanding
Dr. Rediger, what gratitude I have for your willingness to speak out about many of the discussed topics that elude measurement. This book sheds light on the impact our high stress lives have on the development of disease, and how a change of self-perception, along with management of stress and well-being through holistic self-care, may empower us to reverse the dis-ease in our lives and self-heal. Highly informative with needed facts and a clear awareness of the importance of a focus on an “n” of 1. Thank you. This is a MUST READ for every human being.

Life changing and beautiful
I feel so empowered by the words of this book. It is a reminder of what I think we all in some part know... that we have the power to change our minds, bodies, and human experiences. I think many will find it difficulty to hear in some ways - for none of this is easy work. But it is important work. I am so, so grateful that Dr. Rediger has written such provocative words that really make us question the way medicine is practiced in western culture. I so hope that many people in all walks of life but especially those practicing medicine will read this book. we need a shift! This book may just be the one to catapult that shift!

Excellent story of recovery and success!
Excellent story of recovery and success. This book unveils and forties the notion that medicine is not encompassing many other aspects of health and wellness as it should. I can sum up the contents with a quote from the book : Today's miracles will be tomorrow's therapies. in essence, miraculous healing is not so miraculous when we consider that psychological, Spiritual, nutritional, and many other aspects of disease intervervention that are not currently being considered as heavily as pharmaceutical interventions. Excellent listen.
