Wishes aren't all they're cracked up to be...especially when you have to capture the Fairies who grant them to you.

Er...make that faeries...and not the normal, hiding-in-plain-sight magical kind.

When a misadventure cleaning out the attic leads Isaac to release a faerie trapped in a glass ball of light, he believes he's struck gold—in the form of wishes. All he has to do is mention the name that was engraved on the ball, and the indebted faerie would grant him any three wishes he wanted.

The best part of all was knowing that there was an entire chest of captured faeries waiting to be freed.... But when strange things start to happen around town, Isaac begins to wonder if the increasingly unfortunate events are his doing.

Only his mysterious neighbor, Yara, knows the truth about his lineage as a Light Keeper.

Can Yara's strength and wisdom guide Isaac into his new role?

Can Isaac make things right again?

Or will his dream-come-true turn into his worst nightmare?

Isaac is cleaning the attic to earn money for a new video game when he stumbles across a trunk full of faeries. Suddenly, Isaac has the ability to have anything and everything he wants. From free cleaning services to unlimited strawberry milkshakes to a skate park entirely to himself, anything he wishes, the faeries are willing, even eager, to accommodate. Things are going well, and Isaac is living his best life until things start happening around town – strange things. Soon, the entire town is plagued by weird situations, and Isaac is forced to question if the faeries’ are responsible, and if they are, what can he do to stop them?

Growing up, my family used to spend the evenings reading together. If you are one of those families or if you are looking to be one of those families, The Light Keeper by Christina Wallace is a good place to start. This family-friendly book is well-written and is great for elementary students.

My favorite aspects of the story were the family dynamics. Most of the time in books with juvenile main characters, they are living in broken homes – the parents are either divorced, deceased, or distant (uninvolved in their child’s life). That was not the case in The Light Keepers. The parents are alive, married, and actively engaged in their children’s lives. Family dinners are important and the children have responsibilities around the house. While this may not seem like a big deal to some people, it was definitely a big deal to me. The family dynamics reminded me of my family, and it was refreshing to see unity displayed among a family in work of fiction.

This was a great elementary/middle school aged fantasy. Fun for the whole family to listen to. The storyline flowed well and had some fun twists and turns to keep you interested and wondering what is going to happen next. I loved that it was not a cookie cutter version of all of the other fantasies where the main character is orphaned. He actually has a loving family who supports him and disciplines him. Something missing in a lot of homes these days. Subtle messages promoting family values were woven throughout the story, which I appreciated. Great read!

This was my first experience with Christina Wallace's work, and it was entertaining. The protagonist, Isaac, released a faerie and the faerie agreed to grant him three wishes in exchange for their freedom. Isaac thought all his problems were solved, only to find that released faeries weren't always so accommodating. The story was exciting. The characters were fun. There were some unexpected twists. E. M. Wylde's narration was enjoyable, and his performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

I really really enjoyed this book so much! It kept me captivated to see what was going to happen next and how they’d get out of situations they were in. The whole idea of fairies having to be caught in the glass balls was so cool, I loved this world so much, I want to live there where fairies are and be a light keeper. Would make life more adventurous and fun. Great book, highly recommend it :D
