Publisher's summary

For centuries, Xoran has been without magic or magical creatures. Humans are the dominant species and have almost forgotten that magic ever existed in their world. Xoran is a world that was ripped apart by the Old Gods and now after several centuries, is coming together again. Monsters and demons attack the peaceful people of Kronos without warning as the Age of Magic begins again.

An ancient witch is freed from her prison and is bent on destroying the works of the Old Gods and bringing Chaos back to the world. Her demon minion becomes the figurehead of a religion based on murder and conquest. The followers of Quell take what they want and no crime is too heinous to commit in the name of their false god.

With magic coming back to Xoran, those with a gift for magic are now able to channel their powers and rise up to defend their fellow man. Powerful mages team up with soldiers and knights to fight the Quell and bring back the rule of Law. A simple sellsword rises up to become a hero, and the kings of Kronos band together to defeat the demon and his followers.

Captivating Tale

This is a captivating tale. The audiobook masterfully portrays a world torn by the Old Gods and now on the brink of chaos due to the return of magic. The narration brings to life the ancient witch's vengeful quest, adding depth to her demon minion's rise as a sinister religious figurehead. The emergence of magic-users and their alliance with knights and soldiers against the Quell is thrilling. Particularly impressive is the transformation of a mere sellsword into a hero, alongside the unity of Kronos's kings. A splendid blend of fantasy and adventure, perfect for fans of epic battles and magical intrigue.

Great read, religious references may not be for everyone.

As a lover of fantasy works, I was pleasantly surprised with this story. The characters are strong and determined even when facing adversity, dealing with problems with such creativity that it left me smiling. The work is well written and the story flows nicely. A lot of the religious undertones are eerily similar to those of Christianity, so if you’re easily offended by this religion’s past (or believe that past to be false), you may have some issues… or need to do some self-reflecting. I’m curious to see how the twins progress with their powers, as it seems like there are great things in store for their future, now that their mentor is gone and they must face the witch in the without him. I received the audible version for free, and in the beginning I wasn’t sure I was ok with the narrator’s portrayal of female voices, but their overall performance had me hooked, and I’m glad I stayed.
