An exception in my hatred for apocalypse Litrpgs

Engaging, intense, and interesting. The story is solid and it starts by hooking you in very effectively. MC's progression it interesting as well the path system. Small spoilers at the bottom

My only actual issue with the book as a whole is the amount of times, sometimes in a row, character sheets come up. and fun fact about this book, the character sheets are about 10 times as long when including skills. Especially when the MC just described what changed on his character sheet. Its easy to ignore a character sheet in a kindle book but is bothersome in an audiobook.

MacLeod Andrews is as solid a voice actor as Travis Baldree, Luke Daniels, or Jeff Hayes. A very good choice of narrator.

SMALL SPOILERS

I like the main character a lot. and i personally have a sneaking suspicion he is on the spectrum. Not as an insult to his intelligence in any way, just based on his social skills, inability to portray facial expressions, and other small things. If I am right than I would love the character all the more. Having a character with high functioning autism would be awesome if portrayed correctly.

A great online novel serial but a run on Novel

The problem here is not that the story is bad. In fact it is very much so a very popular web novel. For over 3 years it was ranked in the top 10 on RRL.com to the best of my memory. While some errors such as a typo or improper sentence structure occured occasionally online it was one of the cleanest self edditing jobs online period. Yet as a webnovel it is also by definition an episodic series of chapters that weave a larger story realeased one after another online. Emphasis on episodic. It was and is not written in the typical format you would find in a published and professionally edited story.

The pros of this is that it is similar to watching a series on Netflix one after another when physically read. you could read chapter after chapter until you caught up to the most current material which was over 1800+ chapters last I checked. So yes lots of content. Much like One Piece.

The cons is that as each chapter is an episode in itself an overarching cohesion is lost in novel format as it rambles from chapter to chapter with "filler episodes", different pov's, Random quests or goals, constantly newly added characters, etc. With many arcs both minor and major occurring on top of one another rather than one big clearly visible story arc . Also just like One Piece as it seriously is scheduled out to continue at minimum till 2030 at the earliest.

a small rant here sorry. This has been mostly confirmed in interviews the main author has given saying the story board for the end of the series and most major story lines till then, all in case his health takes a turn for the worse. Everything else we watch in between now and the end will be a mix of massive amounts of filler and a small hint of furtherance of the overarching plot here and there... Namely each islands story with about 4-8 episodes of actual plot content time wise has been prewritten and planned which will then be stretched for anywhere between 20-40 episodes by the producers per major island. While pure filler stories of one to an infinate episodes can be added in between major story arcs whenever desired.

I love the Narrarator!

The First time I read this it was on Royal road a Long time ago, To see it here and have the Narrarator even Do the Effects and screams had me Dying With laughter.
I Loved it thank you and I shall be Buying all The Other ones Too! Even if I have Read this book Twelve times...

Really good story but I feel like an entire hour of the narrating is just going over stats and skills. It's painful to listen to. Also near the end perspectives changed so often it felt like nothing was happening.

Been awhile great new series

I have been trying to find a new series that is to my great enjoy ent and it’s here.
Now on to next boom in series.

Great book. Like the different litrpg style here. Would recommend to anyone by the way.

Really enjoyable series

I’ve been going back and forth on whether to read this series for a long while now. It comes up in many LITRPG lists so that was a big plus but I read a lot of reviews and there are many reviews that made it seems I would not like the books. What to do…what to do… So I finally bought the first three books through various audible deals and then started to read them when I ran out of books to read. I figured the real problem reviews don’t appear until books 4 and 5. I’ve now read through book 4 and have enjoyed every one of them.

Sometimes I worry about the main character because of the manipulation going on throughout and from many sides. But that just means that I can understand and relate to Randidly, so that’s a good thing. He’s not stupid and sometimes you have to wait for awhile to figure out why he’s doing something until he figures it out himself. Just like any other good character. Yes the book does have many little scenes from other characters but I think it just adds depth to the overall series. I don’t hate any of the characters enough that I have to skip their viewpoints. Some I just feel sorry for because they go down bad paths because they blame others for their lacks and they can’t seem to pull themselves back to a better place. But isn’t that the way people are?

I am now going to take a chance and buy Book 5. I expect I will like it just fine!

Decent start to the series

If there are more books, I'll be tracking for them like a bloodhound. The book was definitely worth it.

Found my next obsession!

I am currently waiting for another series to release a new book and just so happened to come across this in my recommended. I’ve been disappointed many times by other recommended offers. For some reason I decided to impulse buy this with a store credit and BOY HOWDY this scratched the itch for me! A relatable character with terrible people skills and flaws that is still humble and good hearted but tempered with an unmatched willpower to survive and endure. What an awesome start to what will hopefully be a long and extremely fruitful saga. I felt connected with the plot the entire way through and felt ZERO filler. Sure, some people may not appreciate the advancement pacing of this unique litRPG addition but the story line compensates for that perfectly with the difficulty and challenges Randidly and Donnieton must overcome to survive the brutal new world. This book pulls no punches and it feels gritty from start to finish with fulfilling battles and fleshed out characters. I’m over the moon that I found a new series to listen to that delivers everything you could ever want from this genre. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ On all fronts as the narrator performed remarkably and his cadence was masterful. Excellent work and please oh please give me 20 more books just like this!

TLDR: BUY IT!!!!
