Publisher's summary

A classic science fiction novel by one of the greatest writers of the genre, set in a future world where one man's dreams control the fate of humanity.

In a future world racked by violence and environmental catastrophes, George Orr wakes up one day to discover that his dreams have the ability to alter reality. He seeks help from Dr. William Haber, a psychiatrist who immediately grasps the power George wields. Soon George must preserve reality itself as Dr. Haber becomes adept at manipulating George's dreams for his own purposes.

The Lathe of Heaven is an eerily prescient novel from award-winning author Ursula K. Le Guin that masterfully addresses the dangers of power and humanity's self-destructiveness, questioning the nature of reality itself. It is a classic of the science fiction genre.

What a great imagination

I really liked this book. I've seen both movie versions and neither live up to the book. What a great story and Ms. Le Guin has an amazing mind. I really liked this story.

I READ twice in succession!

I am not a Sci Fi fan as a rule, but the excellent narration helped me stick with it. Fantastic story gave me plenty to contemplate. I read one book by the author 40 years ago (required) and didn't understand how gifted she was until now.

This is AMAZING! Stunning!

How have I never heard of this book before? It is LIGHTYEARS ahead of its time. The best book employing Taoist principals that I’ve read since the Tao of Poo. Loved it beyond description.

Interesting premise and thoughtful story

My first real voyage into Ursula K Le Guin and it was a good first novel. The story is engaging but I found the narration lacking. Usually I enjoy George Guidall but I read about half and listened to half and I was much more engaged when I read instead of listened.

I wish this were made into a movie.

Some books (like those by Philip k Dick) are just begging to be fleshed our into a movie. This is one of those books.

SO AWESOME

Love Le Guin's stories and this is no exception. Engaging premise, interesting characters, cool aliens, and beautiful imagery.

Masterpiece

Yet another of Le Guin’s science fiction masterpieces. It is both a tribute to the power of dreams and a multifaceted mirror of human nature and society. Well worth absorbing if you have a little patience and an open mind.
