Publisher's Summary

In the final book of the number-four New York Times best-selling Neverwinter saga, Drizzt Do’Urden navigates a winding path littered with secrets and lies. Tangled up in his companion Dahlia’s dark secrets, the ties that once held her close to Drizzt threaten to tear as her bonds to his former foe, Artemis Entreri, continue to grow.

Meanwhile, in the caverns of Gauntlgrym, the drow Tiago Baenre enlists the help of Bregan D’aerthe in his quest to destroy Drizzt. While making promises they may not keep, the agents of the elite drow mercenary group hide plans of their own. Determined to stand for what’s right in the Realms once again, Drizzt forges a new road north - toward Icewind Dale. Will his new companions follow? Can he fight the darkness alone? Either way, he knows now where he’s headed - back to the only place that’s ever felt like home.

Really Good

Would you consider the audio edition of The Last Threshold to be better than the print version?

Good story. As were all in this series. Finishes up the story and sets up well for The Sundering. Drizt will finally gets on with his life. Only been waiting 100 plus years.

Have you listened to any of Victor Bevine’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Most of his voices for the characters were all the same 2, with almost no difference at all. But the author makes it clear who say talking and doing what.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Did I laugh or cry? Laughed a few times, no crying in Faerun. Was entertained in every chapter.

Any additional comments?

I like the smell of book print. i just sit and sniff the books, over and over again. I wish audible would add that smell to their voice overs. Its 2013 for gods sake. But thanks for the audio books, i never learned how to read.

If you enjoy Salvatore, you will enjoy this

What about Victor Bevine’s performance did you like?

First audio book I've listened to. Gave me what I expected.

Any additional comments?

As with other reviewers, I will admit the ending leaves the reader wanting more. Overall, the story is well written.

The legend fizzled away

I agree with another reviewer, Tom from CA, in that the author seems to have lost interest in the Drizzt Character. He does seem like he wanted to wrap this up and finish it.

Mini-Spoiler Alert- I'm going to try and stay away from some details so I don't ruin this for those who have not read this book but some things I can't help but mention. Please, be warned. The book started out a little slow and it never really sped up. The action scenes always left me wanting a little more which can be a good thing but the author never delivered. I read page after page trying to figure out where everything was going but I just couldn't. The mother-son storyline was cliche in the extreme between Dalia and Effron the Broken Tiefling. It was easily predictable where that storyline would lead. The Drizzt, Entreri, and Dalia triangle was more of an obtuse rhombus and if my description there doesn't make sense then I succeeded in showing exactly how that "triangle" led nowhere and made no sense. Sorry for that.

I have enjoyed Salvatore's writing style and his Drizzt books for years and even if I wasn't interested in the story specifics themselves, Salvatore was always able to pull me in and keep me turning pages. He is that good a writer and storyteller. This time it seems his heart just wasn't in it. I was very interested in the Regis and Cattie-Brie teasers but they ended up going nowhere. The ending was just like a flooded back yard that slowly just drained and faded away. If this is to be the end of Drizzt Du'Orden, and it is by no means clear that this is the end, then he met quite the sad ending. Again, to be clear, I can't even tell you if this was the end of Drizzt, that was how unclear it was. I was forced to go back and re-read the advertising for this book to make sure it was the end of the series and sadly it was.

The ending timeline was perfect for ending this book in 1,000 different directions but I am dissappointed in the way the author chose Drizzt to go.

I am very happy that at least Artemis Entreri isn't dead or even close to it. I hope he comes back in a trilogy all his own someday. He is one of my favorite characters and I don't want to see him go.

Surprisingly my favorite!

I blew through this book. Normally they take a couple of weeks, but this took a couple of days. At one point, I complained to my partner that it was "slower" than the other books, meaning less action-packed. There was a lot of exploring new characters, old characters, rehashing some old stuff. Not a whole lot of high-stake fights, but when it was all said and done, I was very, very glad for that.

The whole book is about Drizzt deciding on what he's going to do. Is he going to follow Innovindil's advice and live life in shorter bursts? Can he let go of Cattie-brie and his old life? That seems boring to me, reading what I wrote, but there is a constant duality in this book. Is Drizzt the chosen of Mielikki, or the favored of Lolth? Will he let go of his old life and friends, and live a new one with this shady group? The whole story revolved around this inner struggle while the party mounted a rescue for Guenhwyvar, to retrieve Artemis's dagger, and other fun times. Excellent book, wooooo wee!
