Welcome my friends!

Welcome...to “The Land"!

The battle of the dead was won, but at a great cost. Sion, leader of the Mist Village, was left with only pain and regret as Richter was claimed by the abyss.

What no one but the abandoned chaos seed knows is that he narrowly avoided the curse of the lich Singh, a curse that still hangs above his head. Now, surrounded by miles of darkness and tons of crushing rock, Richter has to find his way back into the light.

The only problem is that this monster of a man is being pursued by monsters, a demon, and his own foolish choices. Faced with all the dangers of the deep dark, what will Richter say when the buried horrors of The Land come a calling and asked if he's paid his dues?

Well he'll look right back, stare that horror in the eye, and say, "Yes sir, the check is in the mail!"

Welcome back my friends! Welcome back...to The Land!

Wow, a entire chapter on diarrhea

I love this series but with nothing but stats and no real progression throughout. This book was a let down. There is an entire chapter on an attack of diarrhea. The attack of the poppy. Sorry but I'm going to return this one.

Dropped The Ball

Story:
The series is amazing maybe my all time favorite depending on how it continues to develop. With that said this book just missed the mark unlike the rest of the series it doesn't move the story forward and barely presents any valuable information it feels more like a fan service filler you'd do between books than a book itself. I would highly recommend this series as a whole but as an avid fan this book was a big let down.

Narration:
Nick Podehl was amazing as always.

Not a full book

I loved books 1-7. But this has no plot development from the previous book. It's more than half upgrade information, Statistics, Strategies, and descriptions. I can believe how little actually happens from beginning to end. In one of the other books we get a thrilling underground adventure from beginning to end, with more plot afterwards. Imagine if all of the underground in that book happened in one book without him doing anything else...thats what this is. For 16 hours. Yeah.

Feel free to skip this book

This is simply the worst book Aleron Kong has published so far, the book has little to no growth, spends a chapter describing a man making poopy and it's filled with fluff.

introduces a new system and spends majority of the book describing it. This was not worth the wait, not worth the credit and not worth the time.

Felt like a filler episode

This book felt like a filler episode were the main author was behind so a couple of people who are familiar with the story cobbled together some extra content just to give the author a little more time. Needless to say 85-90%of this book was not necessary.

How is this the 8th book and not justa short story

This book doesn't conclude anything. It's basically just an inner monolog with half the book being prompts and more explanation of mechanics that we already know. Its book 8, i dont need to know what stamina does.

Half the book is filler

I absolutely love this series and was extremely hyped to get book 8... but.. after listening to 16 hours, half of that time is stat and prompt filler and barely any progression in the storylines. It turned my hype into disappointment.

I really hope that book 9 makes up for it, but the sad part is that we'll have to wait a long time again :(

Boring and Juvenile

I decided to give the series a chance after the calamity that was book 7. It wasn’t worth the credit. This book isn’t really a book; it’s Richter reading his prompts for 7 hours. There are two interesting battles which occur in the first chapter and the last chapter of the book. The childish humor has somehow gotten worse from the previous books and he spends an entire chapter talking about the MC having diarrhea. Honestly, the diarrhea was the 3rd most interesting part of this book.

Aleron also kept explaining things that were already explained in the first book. If he cut out the repeated explanations the book would be about 3/4 as long. If you want to make sure people are still knowledgeable at this point put together a glossary or a stat sheet or something.

Honestly, the only thing that was good in this book was the narrator. Nick Podehl is amazing and I honestly wonder what was going through his head as he narrated some of this book. I will listen to (almost) anything he narrates. I think I’m done with The Land. Which is a bummer because it started so great and the world is really interesting. I just can’t stand the other parts of the books anymore.

Massive let down after the first 7 books

I've been listening to the land series since book 1 and out of all the books this is one of the worst, while Nick Podehl as always does a fantastic job of bringing the book to life, Aleron Kong in my opinion has completely dropped the ball on this book, after the previous 7 books this doesn't even come close to being on par with them, it seems like his writing has become lazy with a heavy focus on stats and arsenine trivia such as spending a chapter detailing rictors food poisoning and subsequent pooping as Aleron so eloquantky puts it.

All in all I wouldn't recommend it, for the price/credit you'll spend you're better off finding a different book that has more substance and plot than this one.

A whole lot of character sheet reading

Book 8 and this is by far the most pointless if not worst. Virtually no story progression. I have never listened to a book that goes nowhere at all. Debating whether to even bother with the next book at all if it is anything like this. If the character sheet references where taken out you may have about 3 hours of story line.

Please don't get your hopes up.

Skip this one

If you enjoy hours and hours or stat calls, talent and skill choices with little to no adventure, this book is for you.

Nick podehl does a flawless performance as usual.
If I wasn’t a fan of these books I’d of got my credit back, I’ll take this one on the chin.

Highly disappointed in book 8. Tempted to return.

barely anything interesting happens, just what you would expect after a massive war with lots of exp, about 3 or 4 interesting parts but for once out of all 7 books the 8th is one I'd return.. Also the promotion part annoys me at the end, I get it but seriously all of this and then 32mins of a new book. To sum up my experience of 16hrs of boredom, I'd rather Richter get killed and the series end than buy this book ever again, wasn't worth the wait.

disappointed

Aleron dropped the ball on this book. I’m a huge fan of his writing and his previous seven books. So I was let down by the direction this book took. The storyline was very stat heavy and it felt like the story never truly progressed. Great performance from Nick though.

Good story. But stat heavy.

I've been invested since the first book but this book does not match up to the quality of the previous ones.

This is becuase this book is very stat heavy. I think that if you cut out all of the stats this book would only be 9hrs long.

On a more positive note this book shows some good character progression and it does include some great battle scenes.

Finally I would have liked to have seen more story progression. It seems like each scene is broken into soo (too) much detail. Took more than 7 hours to progress from the end of the previous book. To make matters worse only 5 days pass in the book but nothing really happened. Just a long monologue and unnecessary stats.

p.s. Nick Podel is the best!

Ok. Just ok.

The last book was great. The plot in this one was...boring. Half the book is Richter dealing with his prompts from the Masoleum fight. The only redeeming quality is Nick Podehl's incredible voice.

Absolutely nothing happens

Have enjoyed the series up until now. This one however should be condensed down to two chapters and incorporated into the next book.
80% could be deleted and have absolutely no effect on the overall story. I'll still read the next one, but if it's anything like this one I'll give up on the series altogether. There are plenty of good ones out there written by people who don't claim to be the father of the genre (seriously, what is with that?).

book title should be "man enters cave" zero story

You can safely skip this book in the series. the character doesn't really progress at all and there is basically zero story line or characters, the writer has just chucked this together for money it seems. You know a book is bad when the best highlight is the character getting a case of diarrhea.

Wanted a bit more

Nick Podehl was great as he usual is but this was a tedious listen overall. Some cool new stuff but there was a lot of repetitious monologue about the same thing over and over. Would have liked more but it's a sub par set up for another book.

Disappointed

I love the Land story it’s great.

I feel let down in this book due to it taking so long to come out and then giving us a small book. Where some important things happened there still should have been some method to the magic. We didn’t even make the 7 days of the curse. I think the book was rushed and didn’t give us fan much in the way of excitement. Looking forward to the next book of course.
