Loved it!

Exceptional, fun and just want I needed!

From the moment I started this book I was so pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable this story is. It definitely builds and gets better the further in I listened as well. Now I have another series to look forward too.

Definitely reminded me of the Spellmonger Series (which is a blast and one of my favorites) but with its own unique, light LITrpg flavor blended in remarkably well. So happy that this story found its way to me.

Good, especially for new litrpg readers

One of the things I often struggle through with a LOT of Litrpg is reading or listening to literally a whole chapter of progression details. This story simultaneously simplifies the protagonists progression and makes it flow within the story. You're not completely ripped out of the narrative by needless amounts of specific stats. This makes it very enjoyable for new litrpg readers as well as more seasoned readers who might feel the need for a break from the monotony.

The story is very interesting. It follows a rather relatable young cynic of a wizard who has seen firsthand how the world treats his kind. He understandably has reservations about sticking his neck out where it might be quickly removed from his shoulders. However, despite his issues with the world, he always seems to stick things out and do what he needs to for the people around him.

Honestly looking forward to more from this series!

Fantastic and fresh LitRPG

Looking for a recommendation, I came across the authors post about his new series on r/progressionfantasy and thought “looks good”. Then I saw that TGR was the narrator and thought “dang this MUST be good.

Well fellow readers, I’m here to tell you it was fantastic. Hump is a cheeky, pragmatic protag who gives a fresh twist to the mage apprentice trope. As I read, I imagined him to be what a young Harry Dresden might’ve been.

Hump is supported by a dynamic cast of characters, all who challenge him to be more. The world building and magic system hood fun new twists on old, familiar-feeling concepts.

If I could write a LitRPG novel, I’d want it to feel like this one! I can’t recommend this book enough and cannot wait for number 2!

Worth a listen

I saw saw the progressive fantasy. struggled to the end on being a Litrpg. Looking forward to next book.

litRPG light

if you are looking for blatant stat blocks and exp award notices blaring this won't be for you. The rpg elements are more subtle and background to a good story and interesting world building. Great book hope there are many more to come.

Reminds me of a excellent game of D&D with a top notch DM at the head of the table.

I didn't know which side I would land on when choosing this story, but I think it is safe to say I am a fan.

Excellent First Book

This was an excellent first book for an obvious series ahead. Great characters and progressions, great fun, and much more than I expected for a progression novel. An absolute gem - you won’t be disappointed you picked this up.

Best narrator!!

Tim Gerard Reynolds is my absolute favorite narrator he makes me feel like I’m there in the book asking with the characters! I’d listen to anything he reads!
