Publisher's Summary

Daniel's (updated) guide to early retirement, version 2.0:

  1. Intercept illegal money transfer from mafia boss. (Complete success. Except for the part where I was discovered and almost caught.)
  2. Hide out in super-exclusive full immersion virtual reality game until the heat is off. (Doing fine so far. They may have figured out that I’m in-game. Still, it’s a huge game, so no problem, right?)
  3. Roll a bard. Max out charisma. Live it up. (Two out of three ain’t bad. We’re just postponing the "live it up" part a bit.)
  4. Profit. (Still almost two years to go for that. Think happy thoughts!)

He could have been way worse off. Sure, Daniel was stuck in-game as the local bard of a quaint village, but people were nice, the quests juicy, and the lore intriguing. Even so, with the mob on the look-out, Daniel would soon find himself sorely tested to avoid detection.

Disclaimer: Still no harems in this series, even with a bard MC. Go figure. We’re going light on the cursing and less light on the puns. You were warned.

Amazing!

I'm really sad I can't give more than 5 stars. First off: the story is great. Full of everything that made the first book good and more. Add to that not only great narrators, but also a lot of the music pieces the bard is playing and you get a work of art instead of a great audiobook. I'm highly anticipating the next part!

Ugh. I guess they had a deadline

Yeah it’s bad. The reader is probably the saving grace of this book.

Compared to the first book this book feels like they had no idea where to take the story and wrote various sections and then threw in a paragraph to connect the two.

The revelation of the wanted poster is the first example of this. WHY was his first reaction like the way it was. There were probably a thousand other ways to get to the connection point, but apparently the writers didn’t want to put in the effort( with so many writers, how is that possible). It could have gone a whole lot smoother...expanded the depth of the story, etc.

It was so grating, I skipped minutes and minutes until I could get back into the story. ...and then it starts to fall apart again.

It could have been better.

So glad I bought this

Absolutely amazing story. But I got to say, the best part about this book was the end..with all the music.

MORE! Like right now please.

Great story just like the last one and a even better performance from the narrators and the music makes it all truly amazing.

I really enjoyed this book, I think it's a great sequel and enjoy the production that went into it. I'm excited for the follow up book

Different type of hero

Following a bard as the main protagonist is a fun change. The story of how he got into the world is interesting and how that past is haunting him in the game builds suspense. The narration is excellent with really great original music.

excellent content

The story and performance are excellent, the only criticism I have is that the story speed and progression are too slow. level 3-4 after two books is pretty sad

Another one

I feel like I'm starting to sound like DJ Khalid. This book is a masterpiece from beginning to freaking end. The writing is absolutely amazing, and the narrators are beats. I couldn't have asked for a better book to listen to in these trying times. Thank you sbt, you guys have a fan for life.

Could have been better

So I really enjoyed book one, the story was I intriguing. The second book was okay, it got really predictable. I lost interest in the MC, I wanted to know more about the pet lizard. The performance was great and I, loved the music. Not sure if I want to get the next book in the series.

Felt like a side quest.

Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the book but it felt like setup for book three.

Continued audio excellence

A great story with otherworldly narration and sound design. Though I don't always agree with the author's sentence structure and word choice, I still highly enjoyed listening to this book and eagerly await the next release.
