Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

Part epic of Texas, part classic coming-of-age story, part unflinching examination of the bloody price of power, The Son is a gripping and utterly transporting novel that maps the legacy of violence in the American west with rare emotional acuity, even as it presents an intimate portrait of one family across two centuries. Eli McCullough is just twelve-years-old when a marauding band of Comanche storm his Texas homestead and brutally murder his mother and sister, taking him as a captive.

With more than two million copies of her novels sold, New York Times best-selling author Geraldine Brooks has achieved both popular and critical acclaim. Now, Brooks takes on one of literature's richest and most enigmatic figures: a man who shimmers between history and legend. Peeling away the myth to bring David to life in Second Iron Age Israel, Brooks traces the arc of his journey from obscurity to fame, from shepherd to soldier, from hero to traitor, from beloved king to murderous despot and into his remorseful and diminished dotage.

Publisher's Summary
David loves his sons. The last thing he expects is that they will topple him from the throne. Who among them will remain by his side? Who will be not only loyal, but also eager to continue his legacy?
For now, David remains silent, even as Amnon rapes Tamar, even as Absalom lures Amnon to his death. In families other than his, such crimes may be concealed. But when they occur in the king's family, they affect matters of the state, and result in his escape from the son he adores. Will he find a way to quell the revolt and come back to the City of David?
This is book III of the trilogy The David Chronicles, told candidly by the king himself. David uses modern language, indicating that this is no fairy tale. Rather, it is a story that is happening here and now. If you like ancient historical fiction about court intrigue, this King David novel has a modern twist like no audiobook you have heard before.

A Father's Sorrow
This volume chronicles the clash between David's sons Amnon and Abselon with a poignancy that captures the pain and despair of a father as he watches his family fall apart. Poznansky weaves bits of biblical text with her own words as she spins this sad tale of one of the low points of the great biblical king's life. It's a tragedy of classical proportions full of pride, hubris and the inevitability of the fall.
Bob Sterry, in my mind one of the best narrators working today, brings the story to life with all the warmth, nobility and eloquence it deserves.
A story you won't want to miss.

A Father's Love Never Changes
This book takes the listener back in time to the Biblical days of Kings and Queens and war among family members. King David has several children by several different wives. Back then a King could do whatever he wanted. He ruled the land wisely but was not so wise when it came to his sons.
This book made me realize that some things in life never change...many of the issues in this book such as incest and murder are still around today and will always be around.
I enjoyed the narrator's voice and the manner in which he spoke. I've always enjoyed how people conversed back in those days--such proper English.
I appreciate receiving this book in exchange for a review.
This was a gripping story and quite shocking in some parts but overall I totally enjoyed being brought back in time to this era.

The Life of Biblical King David comes to climax
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I recommend this to everyone who has enjoyed audio-books such as I, the Sun, or The Sacred Band; to anyone in fact, who loves the ancient world and years for stories that bring those days to life.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Edge of Revolt?
As David grows and ages, he is trapped into yet another wear, one in which he cannot protect his children nor, truly, the empire to which he's dedicated his life.
Have you listened to any of Bob Sterry’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Bob Sterry's unerring ear brings the story an extra measure of reality through his deft pronunciations.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The ending, but I won't spoil it for you, except to say this book has a conclusion you will always remember.
Any additional comments?
This audiobook is worth adding to your permanent collection.

A Father's Love
I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. First off I would like to say the narrator did a great job. King David is brought face to face with many of the mistakes he made in having sons by many women. This is historical fiction but based on fact. Sons turning on father but father never stops loving sons. I did not listen to the first two but this one is still a good stand alone.

A literary gem!
I’ve always enjoyed books by Uvi Poznansky, they are inevitably written with great skill and literary charm. This story is no exception. What astounds me about this series, however, is the amount of incredible research needed to pull off such a feat.
How Ms. Poznansky created such a vivid, detailed, true-to-life account leaves me awestruck. It’s as if she peered inside the Bible, spoke with the characters and witnesses who were there, and then created a realistic and moving portrait of David’s life.
I listened to the audiobook version of this title, and was delighted with the quality and variety of the narrator’s character voices. From young man to elderly King, or from man to woman, Bob Sterry provided distinct and unique voices that made the story with many, many characters easy to follow. He also provided some unique talent during the passages where King David sings, with a rich voice definitely suited to this role.
The most impactful part of listening to this book, however, had to do with the emotions drawn from me during the process. I was literally yelling at characters during my drive to and from work, which must have made for some interesting comments by passers by. I grew to hate Amnon, understand Absalom, and was incredibly frustrated and angry at the main character for not standing up for his own daughter when she was violated. Sure, I know he had reasons, but to me—as a father—these reasons were not even close to sufficient. I felt fury and outrage and empathy and fear. There aren’t too many books that can bring forth such raw emotions in the retelling of Bible stories, are there? (To be clear, I am not very familiar with the original Bible stories which generated this book, and I’m reacting only as a reader of fiction, most certainly not as a Biblical historian.)
In addition to the riveting character studies, The Edge of Revolt is a colorful story that moves forward with tension and suspense, replete with intrigue and war, seduction and betrayal, and filled with spies of varying loyalties drifting through the King’s life.
Ms. Poznansky is a gifted writer in all genres, but this story will stay with me for a very long time. Highly recommended as a learning tool as well as a satisfying fictional listen.

Yes. A riveting story. I love Uvi Poznansky books and her Audio book version was fantastic and narratated artistically and vibrantly. As always you can be pulled in to the story and feel as if you are right there in the middle of the words and the Adventure.
What about Bob Sterry’s performance did you like?
The telling of a story should be like you are in the room watching it all unfold and it happens in the way Bob speaks.
Any additional comments?

Still a powerfull King
Now we hear from King David himself and he isn't a bit shy about tooting his own horn. As far as he is concerned women just can't get enough of him and even at his advanced age they still swoon. His reign has been blood filled and full of drama. His children have not turned out as he would have liked. Some only want the riches that their father has amassed, one just wants him to die so the eldest son can have the throne without really working as the king. Yes just the title and the riches and may be all the women too. Speaking of sons even though the sons can have any woman one son wanted a woman hat should have been forbidden, he was the selfish kind and he didn't care if she was forbidden. It was a pity that David couldn't find the courage or strength to discipline or punish his children and that very big problem of his caused him even bigger problems. A war and a great loss of life, unrest with his people, and the future of his kingdom. We know the bible stories but now we know the rest of the story at least King David's side of it.
