The beloved author of The Bookshop on the Corner returns with a sparkling, sunny, soulful new novel perfect for fans of Elin Hilderbrand.

Years ago, Flora fled the quiet Scottish island where she grew up -- and she hasn't looked back. What would have done on Mure? It's a place where everyone has known her all her life, where no one will let her forget the past. In bright, bustling London, she can be anonymous, ambitious... and hopeleslly in love with her boss.

But when fate brings Flora back to the island, she's suddenly swept once more into life with her brothers -- all strapping, loud, and seemingly incapable of basic housework -- and her father. Yet even amid the chaos of their reunion, Flora discovers a passion for cooking -- and find herself restoring dusty little pink-fronted shop on the harbour: a café by the sea.

But with the seasons changing, Flora must come to terms with past mistakes -- and work out exactly where her future lies...

Funny and heartfelt, The Café by the Sea is a delightful summertime novel that puts a modern twist on the classic Seven Brides for Seven Brothers story.

My least favorite so far of Jenny Colgan's books. Narrator was ok except for the American accent which was pretty bad.

Just so so for me. Least favorite of Jenny Colgan books

Coltan paints a Lovely picture of the Scottish island of Muir. The setting is really what draws me in here. The narrator did a great job , I could always tell who was speaking. I will note that in general the main characters are not actually very likable people, but there is some good character development and I enjoyed the book.

Enjoyable listen

Where does The Cafe by the Sea rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I enjoyed listening to this story -- couldn't wait to get in my car to listen. I found myself listening while I was getting ready for work and ironing

What other book might you compare The Cafe by the Sea to and why?

Not sure, but I would not have compared it to Seven Brides for Seven Brothers ---that is a not even a fair comparison

Have you listened to any of Sarah Barron’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to her before, but enjoyed listening to her and will look for other books she has narrated

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Joel came back to the island to claim her

Any additional comments?

Only odd thing was when the narrator changed the tone of her voice for some of the male characters -- that was hard to listen to. I enjoyed the relationship Flora had with her brothers, since I had six brothers of my own, and my mother died when I was 15, so I could relate well to the story

Great story

Set on that island which is a character itself, the listener is transported to a place that one may not have the opportunity to visit otherwise, nor could there be any other way to know the community life that has different challenges than those of us who reside in more typical locations.

This should be a movie!
