If you like tales that will chill you to the bone, make your skin crawl, and spoil your appetite, Skeleton in the Closet and Other Scary Stories is the collection of horror stories for you. These 23 tales of terror are sure to thrill. Find out what happens when you try to keep the skeleton in your closet a secret, when you clown around too much, and when you are too loud in the library. Included here are stories about getting too much sun, finding yourself in the dark surrounded by water, listening too closely to the whispers in the walls, as well as the fate of those who take candy from a stranger when it isn't Halloween. What happens when you're buried alive? What if you were to wake up as a giant bat? What if a person were to cross paths with a witch in the woods or a pirate crew of skeletons on the sea? Hear about these frightening dilemmas and find out what's really in that plum jelly. All this and more is here in Skeleton in the Closet and Other Scary Stories.

Are you brave enough to listen to all these horror stories?

    Story
"Solid spooky tales, perfect for any campfire"

As others have mentioned, the tales here are a bit more juvenile in nature than something from a King or Koontz, but for me that was part of the charm. Though the stories got progressively mature, sometimes it's the simplest of stories that are the scariest, and I can honestly say that in their own ways, a few of these creeped me out.

Like stories kids tend to tell each other, many of these (especially the titular tale) read like urban legend meant to curb certain behaviors. Because of this, our stories rarely have happy endings. This added to the creep out factor of some of the more haunting or gross tales, but it did start to color the experience for me. Hard to be fully immersed or root for a character when you've seen how things tend to end time and time again.

The narrator did a good job. He had a bit of an overly creepy tone at times, but given the subject matter and intended(?) audience, it fit well.

I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review. It's a tad on the short side for a credit, but for the content, I'd say it's worth while.

"Chilling! Treat Yourself to an Early Halloween 👻"
What made the experience of listening to Skeleton in the Closet and Other Scary Stories the most enjoyable?

The original stories with unexpected endings made these a treat. The narrator was the trick!

What does Gene Blake bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His imagination and skill at writing short stories that was "ick!" Did make my skin crawl... similar to the worms mentioned! (And not only during that story.)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

*shivers* Several made me wanna shower ... with the curtains open!

    Any additional comments?

The stories and storytelling are top notch! I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who wants creepy shorts! <br/><br/>"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

"A Spooky Collection of Short Stories"

Skeleton in the Closet was such an awesome listen. The stories were scary but not too scary. They were exciting and thrilling. I can't wait until my grandkids get to listen to this audiobook. They'll love it. I think 11-13 is a perfect age group for this audio. The length is good too.

Gene Blake's narration was amazing. I was extremely entertained by his vocal performance. His character voices were SO good. He was incredibly good. I'd definitely recommend this audiobook.

    "Campfire stories"

This would be great campfire stories. No one will be sleeping. The story about the abandoned refrigerator with the thing with many mouths and teeth, the scarecrow come to life to take its maker, the children in the woods turning into trees and firewood. The narrator did a wonderful job some of the voices were unbelievably awesome. I received this free for an honest review from the author or narrator.

"a SHORT story collection for YA audiences"

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Overall, I enjoyed the experience, as short as it was. I know it is a collection of short stories, but the whole thing is only 2 hours and 47 minutes long. I wouldn't have spent a credit on it, myself. That being said, the stories were pretty good and the narrator is good. I do think the intended audience is more in the YA range, rather than true horror fans but it's not young enough that I didn't enjoy it.

"Suprising Twists and Turns! Great book!"
What about Gene Blake’s performance did you like?

The dark and strong narration for the subject of this book made for a colorful listening experience.

    "Fun for teens"

I enjoyed this book and most of the stories are good, but might be more enjoyed by teens. Maybe that is who the stories were intended for. The reader was great and added just the right amount of drama.

    "Good creepy tales"

Perfect collection of tales that would be good for younger kids to be told around a campfire or maybe right before bed. Lots of stories included. If you listen carefully they do have a lesson for the listener.

Gene Blake does a great job and I look forward to hearing more of him.

"Great shorts with great lessons for kids"

This was a great set of short stories for kids. I'd say best for 4-10 years old. The stories are easy to listen to and just creepy enough to give kids a shiver while not causing them to be so scared they miss the message in the story. My favorites were probably the skeleton in the closet and for runner up the bathtub voices. Really great stuff for kids highly recommend. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
