Beautifully written by renowned author Julia Alvarez, Finding Miracles examines the emotional complexity of familial relationships and the miracles of everyday life.
Me encanto este libro, excelente como todos los anteriores. Julia Alvarez es una gran escritora.
A story to capture the heart and make you want to keep driving in order to keep listening to its narration.
The book explores the feelings of an adoptive child and her family as they struggle to understand the child?s interest in searching for information about her birth parents and her birth country. The author does a superb job in exploring the problems and feelings that may take place in an adoptive family situation, including discrimination. The book does keep your interest until the end and I enjoyed it. The narration is also done very well, with a healthy sprinkling of Spanish language that accentuates the cultural differences. The ending, however, is somewhat disappointing because as a reader/listener I was left expecting some interesting major coincidence that never materialized. Also, the book centers around the problems in the girl?s birth country- a Latin American country that is never mentioned by name. As the plot evolves one realizes that it is a fictional country. The only problem is that I do not want to know it is fiction when I read fiction! It would have been much better if the author had selected a real country as the backdrop for the book. Nonetheless, I feel that the book deserves four stars for effectively dealing with realistic adoption issues.
