Publisher's summary

Where do you go when nowhere is safe?

Sixteen years after a deadly virus wiped out most of Earth’s population, the world is a perilous place. Eighteen-year-old Eve has never been beyond the heavily guarded perimeter of her school, where she and two hundred other orphaned girls have been promised a future as the teachers and artists of the New America. But the night before graduation, Eve learns the shocking truth about her school’s real purpose - and the horrifying fate that awaits her.

Fleeing the only home she’s ever known, Eve sets off on a long, treacherous journey, searching for a place she can survive. Along the way she encounters Arden, her former rival from school, and Caleb, a rough, rebellious boy living in the wild. Separated from men her whole life, Eve has been taught to fear them, but Caleb slowly wins her trust... and her heart. He promises to protect her, but when soldiers begin hunting them, Eve must choose between true love and her life.

In this epic new series, Anna Carey imagines a future that is both beautiful and terrifying. Readers will revel in Eve’s timeless story of forbidden love and extraordinary adventure.

Loved It! But heartbroken! Must read!!!

This book is AMAZING!!!! It's constantly moving, so you never get bored.

Also, I'm a huge fan of this narrator for other books Tavia Gilbert has done (in fact, I found this book by looking for the narrator). Tavia Gilbert is probably the best narrator I've experienced so far. She doesn't read lines of a book, but sounds like she's reading a script or actually acting out the scenes herself. Her telling of the story is so natural.

The story is wonderful too! It's a great YA book and an interesting Dystopian.

I love the development of the relationships between Eve and Arden, as well as between Eve and Caleb. Neither seemed forced or sudden, but organic and natural instead.

I was definitely left heartbroken a couple of times in this book (don't want to give away spoilers). Tavia Gilbert's reading enhances that heartbreak with her abilities to really emphasize emotion in her voice. I wish the trilogy was completed (or at least book 2 was already out), because I really need resolution to my heartache.

I just didn't care...

...about the characters, about their relationships, about anything.

I could blame the fact that I had just finished listening to Veronica Roth's Divergent, which is a hard act to follow. That's a book that gets it right, and by the end you can't wait to hear what comes next. I was completely invested in each character and believed that the romance at the heart of it was genuine and deep. In the case of Eve, I didn't buy it. And I can't see myself buying any more of the series when it comes out.

The problem, I believe, is that too much happens too quickly. The book is just six and a half hours long. I do like a book to get going quickly, but the first half hour of this book was ridiculously paced. If the author had taken a little more time to build things up, to give us layer after layer of rich detail, then the characters would have seemed more real and therefore their relationships more honest and ultimately, the stakes would be higher for the reader. I felt like the author was just following a blueprint for this sort of novel, but there was no heart at the centre of it. That's pretty bad for a book that is supposed to be about love.

Also, the narration didn't do much for me. It wasn't terrible, but some of the voices really grated on me.

Loved it!!

I hate when I find a book that i absolutly love, and all i want to do is finish reading the rest of the books that go along with it, only to find out this is the first in the Trilogy! And that the others havent even came out. This book was Amazing. The time it took to "get started" didnt take too long, and i love the discription of the world eve lives in. Cant wat to see whats to happen next!

ok

This book starts out good then gets slow/stupid and then the very end is good. I would say skip it, except; the ending makes a promising premise for the next installment.

Waiting for #2

I like the the premise of the story, Girl finds out her shocking future and runs...but I really kinda hope in the next 2 books, she gets a little smarter and braver.

Good read but weak main character

Main character is so weak, could have been on purpose, but man she make me mad.

If you like Divergent you will like this too

Any additional comments?

This was a great series. My kids and I listened to all of the books in this one and all enjoyed them. Worth the credit.

Mixed Review - Ambivalence

After finishing Eve a few days ago, I find that I'm still ambivalent about it. I found the premise interesting and the writing was good. But I found the implementation of the plot lacked a bit. It's nothing specific that I can put my finger on - just that some of the ideas didn't hold up well.

That said, the narrator was excellent. I think if I had read the dead tree version that my review would not have gotten to 3 stars. Tavia Gilbert's superb narration elevated the story for me.

I do plan to listen to the sequel, mostly out of curiosity to what happens with the characters.

Simply Excellent

If you could sum up Eve in three words, what would they be?

Love is Everything needed

What other book might you compare Eve to and why?

Matched By Ally Condie
Leaving Paradise By Simone Elkles
Cracked up to be By Courtney Summers

They are all have the same message in them

Have you listened to any of Tavia Gilbert’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No , its the first time hoping it won't be the last

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

the parts where Caleb told Eve that he really cared about her , and the way he caught her when she most needed him , I loved him very much

Any additional comments?

This book is utterly AMAZING .. very very good and I strongly recommended to those who liked Matched by Ally Condie
