Publisher's summary

Before the Blight, becoming an adult was something teenagers looked forward to. But now, turning 18 means certain death.

Unless you prove yourself worthy of the Cure.

On her 17th birthday, Ashen Spencer is blindfolded and escorted to the massive, mysterious building known as the Arc to begin her year of training and testing in hopes that she can earn the Cure - a powerful drug given only to those deemed worthy to survive beyond their 18th birthday. Ashen has a chance to rise up from her former life of squalor and be granted a place in society, if the Panel - the mysterious group of powerful men and women in charge of the Arc - deems her year a success.

She's assigned to live for twelve months with a wealthy family whose son is the most alluring young man she's ever met. At first, Ashen is grateful for the opportunity to earn her place in a society she's always dreamed of inhabiting. But as time passes and she begins to learn the truth about the people she admires so much and the home she left behind, she realizes she has a choice:

Be part of the disease.... Or be part of the Cure.
For fans of The Hunger Games, Divergent, and The Selection.

I agree with a previous review

This book has a lot of themes kind of jumbled together. It doesn't always make the most sense. It's not a terrible story but I won't be continuing with the series.

Fell flat.

This book had about 10 different dystopian themes that were not explained at all. The romance was cheesy and unbelievable. The ending was so rushed too, with little to nothing explained.

Garbage

How this got to a publisher I will never understand. There was not a single original idea. Main character is a wannabe Katniss living in a generic dystopian context. There was so little background info on how the society got to this point that it didn’t make sense. Lacking pertinent plot details. Lacking character development. Lacking originality & imagination. All of this left me lacking interest. I quit listening an hour before it ended. ONLY redeeming quality is the narrator, she did a great job.

A good dystopian/ fantasy author paints such a vivid picture of the world the characters live in that the reader *almost* believes it’s real & is genuinely invested in their lives & well-being. If that’s what you’re looking for, go re-read Harry Potter or hunger games 😂

Really wanted to like this

If you liked Hunger Games, Divergent, Matched, and maybe even Maze Runner, you'll have already read this book! There were so many things that I felt like came from these books that it confused me that it could be sold as it's own work.

I feel bad saying something so negative, but I'm also upset I spent $12 and couldn't return it after the first hour. If you want to give it a try use a credit because those you can return.

It wasn't that I didn't like the whole book, but sometimes the characters did things that were so obviously stupid to do when they've been told they'd be killed for doing them, that I had to pause the book and walk away for a while. I finished it because I paid for it, but it didn't leave me wanting to finish the series, sorry.

So. Many. Parallels. To. Other. Books.

TO BE CURED OR NOT TO BE CURED

THIS STORY MAJORALLY HAD ME ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT. GOING FROM THE SECTORS TO A SUPPOSED PARADISE, AND FINDING OUT THAT ALLL IS NOT AS IT SEEMS AND THE DIRECTORATE IS HIDING MANY DARK SECRETS, AND THINGS OF ASHENS PAST COME FORWARD AS WELL. THE NARRATOR DID A FANTASTIC JOB AND THE STORY IS CLEAN, I CAN NOT WAIT FOR MORE FROM THIS SERIES!

Exactly what you’re expecting…

…and it’s still doesn’t disappoint. It’s one of those stories that you expect to be made into a movie with a heroin and a love interest and horrible secret reveal.
