Publisher's Summary

How far would you go to save the ones you love? And how far would you go to save everyone else?

Maisie Danger Brown just wanted to get away from home for a bit and see something new. She never intended to fall in love with a boy at space camp. And she certainly never intended to stumble into a frightening plot that just might destroy everything and everyone she cares about. But now there's no going back - Maisie's the only thing standing between danger and annihilation. She must become the hero the world needs before she loses her heart... and her life.

Equal parts romance and action-adventure, this explosive story is sure to leave both longtime Shannon fans and avid sci-fi readers completely breathless.

Shannon Hale doesn't Fail

I am a big fan of Shannon Hale and in fact emailed her a request for this book to be offered on audible two weeks before it popped up. I love it when I can do that!
This book is very different from her other novels. I am used to her flowing, poetic language and more of a slow build to her plots, so at first I felt like this book was rushed. But as it continued, I realized it was just very straight forward.
I love the protagonist. She is smart and witty and brave and vulnerable and all around fantastic. My only wish is that it was longer. Hopefully she will return to this world and we can follow them through more adventures.

Intense, Unpredictable, Exciting!

Shannon Hale is my favorite author. I was NOT expecting a book like this from her - but that's not a bad thing. Sci-fi isn't exactly my cup of tea, but for those who love it you should definitely read/listen to this book. My only real experience with sci fi was when I watched Firefly in college, and this gave me similar feelings: intensity, unexpected plot twists, fear, extravagant ideas, and freaky aliens that give me nightmares. But man she wrote this book well, and I LOVE the unique main character!!! From beginning to end I kept having moments like "WHAT???!" the only predictable part was the VERY end. But you have all the pieces by then and I'm glad it turned out how I wanted it to :) Thank you Shannon Hale for the exciting new super hero!

Great adventure

Captivating story. Fun adventure. Clever, clever, clever. The writing style was so enjoyable to listen to. I loved the love/hate dynamic. Not your typical teenage story about a girl falling in love. She keeps her head & doesn't act stupid.

Dangerous is Awful

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

No one - Shannon Hale used to be such a clean author - I am surprised in a juvenile book that she would use sex, vulgarity, and so much yuck.

What could Shannon Hale have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

She should have stuck to being clean-cut. No longer trust this author.

Any additional comments?

Shannon Hale - SO disappointed in you. You know better.
