Publisher's summary

The Vampire War is over. The United States is reeling. The Masquerade is fragmenting. The Apocalypse is here.

The long and bloody war with the vampires in the United States has finally ended, thanks to the efforts of the vampire Arbiter and ONSET Commander David White - and a nuclear explosion on American soil.

The final battle proves harder to conceal than hoped, however, and a series of high profile incidents end any chance of hiding the supernatural. Suddenly, the world is faced with the fact that it is both more wonderful and more terrible than humanity ever realized.

But as the US government struggles to adapt to this new reality, old enemies have set into motion plans that could render humanity’s struggles irrelevant. There are those beyond the Seal who were once gods...and they want their planet back!

Another masterpiece

This is probably my second or third favorite series ever. You have the #1 Narrator in all of the audiobook universe in Ray Porter. This book does not dissapoint. I went through it in 1 day.

Love the series

Another winner from Glynn Stewart. Action packed. Good storyline. Engaging and hard to put down (so to speak).

Really Really hope this is NOT the final book

Enjoyed this installment in the series. The story is fairly straight forward. No twist, turns or surprises. But I didn't really need twists from this series. What I want from this series is for the character work and the action sequences to be good. One of my issues with Book 1 was that we spent considerable time getting to know the characters on ONSET 9 then David got his own team an we got a new set of characters that we didn't get to know as well. One of my favorite elements of this book was getting to learn more about Charles and Michael. I could have done without the romance hinted at in previous books, but it was handled in a way that didn't distract from the main story too much.

The only thing that disappointed me was the fact that the people ultimately responsible for so many deaths had zero consequences. Consequences for one's actions is an area where I do NOT want my fiction to mimic the real world. If a 5th installment is written I fervently hope that consequences are handed out.

Ray Porter - the reason I took a chance on this series in the first place - was, as usual AWESOME.

Loved It

I've loved this entire series. I like the characters, I like the magic, I like the relationships, I like the stories. I can't wait for Book #5. I'm still a tad confused about why David White is 5'4", but hey. And then there's Ray Porter. I would listen to Ray Porter read me the alphabet. Or math. I actually started this series because it was narrated by Mr. Porter.

an Excellent finish. Ray Porter Grand Slam

I enjoyed the whole series. If you like fantasy, you'll enjoy this series.
Ray Porter's narration was, as usual, stunning perfection. It was a perfect t choice for this series.

The Best One Yet

This is a story where a werewolf soldier is among the most normal and mundane characters in the book. The world Stewart slowly constructed in the first 3 volumes really comes to life in the series finale. It's an interesting world with well-developed characters and no shortage of imaginative twists and turns.

I really enjoyed the Onset series, and I expected more of the same when I started this final volume. It wasn't the same, it was head and shoulders above the first 3 books. The books leading up to this finale were all good, I didn't have problems with any of them, it's a great story filled with convincing characters and an imaginative plot. This fourth book, however, knocked it out of the park. The story got even weirder, in all the right ways, and Stewart let his imagination go wild, without overdoing it. And, Ray Porter was just as excellent as he always is, he's one of the world's great narrators. He could make a textbook compelling. Luckily, he had far more than that to work with here.

This appears to be the last book in the series, but if Glynn Stewart wants to write another one, I'll be here for it.

Great finish

Sad to see it end but glad to see a series conclude successfully. Here's to hoping for more ONSET sometime in the future.
