America’s worst nightmare has just become a brutal reality. The most unlikely terrorist enemy of all now holds a knife against the country’s throat. With both diplomatic and conventional military options swept from the table, the president calls upon Navy SEAL turned Secret Service agent Scot Harvath to disable a brilliantly orchestrated conspiracy intended to bring the United States to its knees.

Teamed with beautiful Russian Intelligence agent Alexandra Ivanova and a highly trained CIA paramilitary detachment, Harvath embarks on an adrenaline-fueled search that spans the world - and leads to a final, deadly showdown on American soil, with a lethal and sinister enemy from the past.

This might be the best book Brad Thor has written...great story line and an awesome narration!

AWESOME!

Coming into the book I was a bit skeptical of the transition from Armand to George, but having listened to other Guidall books I have learned to love him. The story itself is really good. Everything is well thought out and explained. Perhaps over explained but in a good way. I think Scott needs to get his love life in check eventually in one of these books, it seems like the author loves putting out temptations everywhere for this all american hero, it makes it interesting to see what he will do next.

The Story line is actually pretty impressive

Brad Thor is one of my favorite authors and, as always, delivered an amazing story with this book. George Guidall, though, is horribly dry and monotone. I have heard obituaries read with more life and gusto than this. There is a section early in the story where the reader describes the main villain bludgeoning somebody to death with a fire poker. Based on the tone of voice alone, you would think he just read the five day weather forecast, not a brutal murder. I hope Armand Schultz is brought back to re-read this book and all the other Thor/Guidall audiobooks. If you can stomach the reader, the story is fantastic.

Fantastic story, terrible reader

What a disappointment. This is a great story and Scott Harvath is true to form. However, after listening to the previous book narratedby Armand Schultz, listening to this one narrated by George Guidall was like I was listening to books by different authors with different main characters.

Guidall has many mispronunciations and has little distinction in his voice from one characters to the next.

Schultz, on the other hand, really made Scott Harvath come alive and gave him a distinct persona, attitude, demeanor, etc. Unfortunately while downloading this book I also downloaded the next three or four. Only to find that Guidall is the narrator on all of them. That being so, I’m not looking forward to any of them. And, by the way, the president’s helo(s) is not referred to as “Marine Corps 1”, it’s simply called “Marine 1”. I am a Marine helo mechanic. These details matter.
Also, LIVE (as in, I want to live) is not the same as LIVE, as in, that bomb is live.

No more George Guidall, bring back narrator Armand Schultz!

What made the experience of listening to State of the Union the most enjoyable?

I have no idea who is who?

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Don't get me started! Scott H is now a French guy.....wth

Any additional comments?

This is the worst narrator swing I have experienced to date. brad Thor is done as far as I am concerned!!!

From the perfect narrator to the WORST!

Loved it. Great story. If you like cold war era inspired novels, this is great. Narration was bad. Narrator sped through tense moments every time. Once you get past the bad narration, you can really enjoy the excellent writing. Would recommend.

Cold War Level

Loved the story but preferred the narrator from the first 2 books. Non stop action and suspense. Can't wait to start the next one.

Awesome book

The story was gripping. The details were awesome yet a few times over the top. But overall, effective. I had many times when listening been aggregated that the narrator was not the original from the first two books. This narrator, was a great deal older and while a overall good story teller, the fact that all of the characters' voices had changed, seemed to make me invision extremely old people as all of the main stars. It was a bit distracting and annoying at times but I debt with it to finish this book and move on. Overall I still thoroughly enjoy the Scott Harvath series and will definitely continue to listen and share with others. Thank you Brad Thor, and thank you George Guidall.

Good but.. Hmmm....

This Scott Harvath series is awesome. I can not continue with George Guidall as narrator. Again, stories are great.

Sorry that I can not continue

Multiple readers/voices would bring more clarity to the portions of fast paced dialogue who is speaking.

A must read/hear thriller that will keep your attention.
