When Muslim fundamentalists blow up a key Soviet oil complex, making an already critical oil shortage calamitous, the Russians figure they are going to have to take things into their own hands. Story
A terrorist bomb explodes during a South Korean celebration of the anniversary of the election of its first president. Alarms are raised in Washington. No one is claiming responsibility. The first suspect is North Korea. Could it be making a power play against South Korea and unification? If so, how will the U.S. respond? Paul Hood, Director of the Op-Center, must answer these questions. The Op-Center, a largely autonomous new agency which takes on the government's toughest security problems, is only six months old, and has never been given a foreign crisis until now.

Publisher's summary
For years, ex–Navy SEAL Maxwell Moore has worked across the Middle East and behind the scenes for the Special Activities Division of the CIA, making connections, extracting valuable intelligence, and facing off against America’s enemies at every turn. And then...news of a potentially devastating coalition: What if two of the greatest threats to the security of the United States were to form an unholy alliance? The Taliban is trying to exploit a Mexican drug cartel to which they supply opium as a means to bring the fire of jihad to the hearts of the infidels. It is up to Moore, and his team, to infiltrate and dismantle the drug cartel, even as they hunt for those who would bring the ultimate terror and destruction to the streets of America. In a story that races from the remote, war-scarred landscapes of the Middle East to the blood-soaked chaos of the U.S.–Mexico border, Tom Clancy once again delivers a heart-stopping thriller that is frighteningly close to reality.

It's Not Tom Clancy!
Peter Telep may have studied all of Clancy's books - if he did, he learned nothing - Against All Enemies is not a Tom Clancy book - other than on the title page. Same for the guy writing for Ludlum, I should have known better.
Audible - look at the reviews! You should consider giving all of us a bonus credit
Clancy is great every time I listen - as long as he wrote it.

The usual Clancy
Have you ever wondered why Tom Clancy novels are so long? It is because he insists on describing every scene in detail, down to the most minor. In this book he describes the training of a Navy Seal for at least 30 minutes. Every weapon is described down to the last screw. Every plane and helicopter takes minutes of description. I figure that he is either trying to dazzle the reader with his intimate knowledge or he is being paid by the word. Another annoying characteristic is his habit of introducing new characters and sub-plots in each sequential chapter so that by the time he goes back to an existing one, you can't remember what was going on. The main plot is ok, but takes too long to develop.

Clancy, Clancy, Clancy
When you put your name on a book, you should read it before it is published. Poor Moore has all of these angst attacks and he doesn't learn from them. When I want tortured souls I will read a romance novel (no disrespect), but I wanted an action book about Middle Eastern drug dealers and the Juarez Cartel. I do not believe the writer has spent time along the Border, much less Brewster County. Definitely not up to par.

Terrible book.... this is NOT Tom Clancy
I am a huge fan of Tom Clancy's novels... loved his authentic story telling and even his attention to detail. But this was obviously NOT written by Clancy. While the story was enough to keep me listening... I found myself groaning and rolling my eyes at the lame dialogue and the weak attempt at showing the characters inner turmoil. It would be interesting to see how many times he used the term "gasp" and how many instances of "balled his fist tight" there were.
In addition the narrator did no favors with his over the top drama! If you want Clancy.. don't read this

Painful
I'm usually not critical of audiobooks, and I listen to quite a few, but what I grew up loving from Clancy is not here. This is a very bad attempt at creating a "modern" hero. Way to fragmented and frankly incoherent at times. It smacks of ghostwriting by a poorly formed committee, i.e James Patterson's bad efforts. Hope he tightens it up a lot with the next book, otherwise he's lost a fan.

Against All Enemies is a hit with me
I've read most of Clancy's novels and rate this one as a very good listen. It kept my interest, had well developed characters and wasn't too hard to follow. I don't really get the negative reviews. The narrator was pretty good too. I would say listen to the sample and if you like that, get the book.

Be patient, it gets better
I was lost in the first 4 hours of this book, and almost stopped reading it. I am 8 hours into it now and give it a 4.5. Lots of characters to try to remember, but I am hooked into the story now. It would be nice if it came with a text file of the players. To me, it is much better that the last book. I will update when I get to the end.

Against All Enemies
Steven Weber did a good job narrating this book. I don't think this book was as good as the early Tom Clancy books. This book had his usual multiple plots going and coming together at the end of the book but just lacked something that was in the earlier books. I like the detail and found the airport security problems interesting as well as the action in Pakistan. I almost feel that Tom Clancy is just sitting back on his laurel and hiring some else to do the hard work of writing.

Tom has jumped the shark like Patterson. This is like KFC is to Colonel Sanders. Just not the same. Reader was totally fine but probably last book because he died of boredom reading it.,I am insulted by this ripoff. Tom Clancy you should apologize for this crap. Oh yea
I"m a big Clancy fan and have to say i love the length of every book he as written. In my opinion if you have read his other books you would now i hope be used to his great detail about everything. I really like how he makes his main characters feel like they could be someone you know our would like to meet as a friend of course.

Hard work and badly disjointed
This book was hard going from the start. It's full of cliches and as cheesy as hell. You have little or no empathy with the main character who is frankly no more than a knuckle headed misogynist dinosaur.

Awful, truly,truly awful.
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
People who enjoy descriptions of things. People who enjoy descriptions of things where the author uses the foreign word for an item (with an achingly earnest attempt at an accent) then translates it into English presumably in order to add some local flavour would love it. Other people who would enjoy it are those who can't take a hint and really need something hammering home before it sinks in. Character X has rich parents, we get it - you don't need to describe the crystal chandeliers, the golden toilets, the diamond encrusted gym etc etc.
What could Tom Clancy and Peter Telep have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Made it about a third of the length by cutting out 90% of the descriptions and needless waffle.
Would you be willing to try another one of Steven Weber’s performances?
Yes.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Generally disappointed in the quality of the book which I'd bought on the back of listening to Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising. This isn't a patch on that and the attempt at writing a "normal" thriller is godawful - inadvertantly poor dialogue, cheesy descriptions of characters and their coffee coloured skin, flashing emerald eyes, raptor like noses etc etc etc.
Any additional comments?
Don't buy it. Seriously. Trust me on this.

Would have made a great movie
Tom Clancy does it again. Would go and watch the movie if Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer put their heads together. My second audio book and I was impressed by Steven Webers very accurate impressions of the various dialects involved in the story which made it a joy to listen to. If you like good guys vs bad guy stories then this is for you.

Good albeit a bit jumpy
As with all Clancy books, you cannot fault the writing or the technical expertise. I did however find the character development of Max to be quite predictable. My chief criticism however is that the story seemed to jump around a lot and this was rather confusing for the first 14 hours of this 18 hour book.

Compared to other Tom Clancy books this is a real slow burner. So much so after a few hours I’ve stopped listening to it.
It’s quite disjointed and jumps around a lot, hard to follow who’s who and what’s happening.

Good Story, Poor Quality
I listened to the entire book and enjoyed the story, but the audio book quality was poor.
In most chapters there was some jumping and/or very fast inaudible sections

Story
In this factual account written with General Carl Steiner (Ret.), a commander who held responsibility for all U.S. Special Operations forces across all service lines, we get special insight into a largely secretive community whose members do not talk about their work. We hear about it only afterwards: the Achille Lauro hijacking, the "takedown" of Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega, the efforts to find Aidid in Somalia. These are men sent in to do the impossible - and often, they achieve it.

Story
When Muslim fundamentalists blow up a key Soviet oil complex, making an already critical oil shortage calamitous, the Russians figure they are going to have to take things into their own hands. They plan to seize the Persian Gulf, and more ambitiously, to neutralize NATO. Thus begins Red Storm, an audacious gamble that uses diplomatic maneuver to cloak a crash military build-up.
